Sulfacetamide

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: sulfacetamide;

1 ml of drops contains a sulfacetamide of sodium of 200 mg or 300 mg in terms of 100% substance;

excipients: Natrium thiosulfuricum; 1 M Acidum hydrochloricum solution to рН 8,0; water for injections.

Pharmacological properties:

The sulfacetamide has bacteriostatic effect of rather gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria – streptococci, pneumococci, gonokokk, colibacillus, chlamydias, actinomycetes. The mechanism of effect of drug is caused by competitive antagonism with paraaminobenzoic acid (PABK) and competitive oppression of a digidropteroatsintetaza that leads to disturbance of synthesis of the tetrahydrofolic acid necessary for synthesis of the purine and pirimidinovy bases. Thereof synthesis of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) bacterial cells is broken and their reproduction is slowed down.

At instillation on a conjunctiva the sulfacetamide gets into eye tissues. Works preferential locally, but a part of drug is soaked up through the inflamed conjunctiva and gets to a system blood stream.

Indications to use:

The infectious and inflammatory diseases of eyes caused by bacteria, sensitive to effect of drug: conjunctivitis, blepharites, purulent helcomas, gonorrheal diseases of eyes at adults and children. Prevention of a blennorea at newborns.

Route of administration and doses:

The adult to apply solution of the Sulfacetamide of 300 mg/ml on 2-3 drops in the affected eye  of 5-6 times a day (every 4-5 hours).

To children to apply solution of the Sulfacetamide of 200 mg/ml on 1-2 drop in the affected eye of 4-5 times a day.

The course of treatment is defined by the doctor depending on character and disease severity. On average course duration – 7-10 days.

For prevention of a blennorea of newborns in each eye directly after the birth dig in on 2 drops of solution of the Sulfacetamide 300 mg/ml, and then on 2 drops in 2 hours.

Features of use:

Use during pregnancy or feeding by a breast.

In therapeutic doses to apply the Sulfacetamide during pregnancy or feeding by a breast only on doctor's orders taking into account a ratio "risk/advantage".

Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or work with other mechanisms. It was not investigated.

Children. Drug is used for treatment of children.

Side effects:

The irritation of tissues of eye (reddening, an itch, the century, burning, dacryagogue swelled), allergic reactions is in some cases possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

At combined use with novocaine, Dicainum, anaesthesin the bacteriostatic effect decreases; dipheninum, PASK, salicylates increase toxicity of the Sulfacetamide; at use with anticoagulants of indirect action specific activity of the last increases. The sulfacetamide at topical administration is incompatible with silver salts.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to components of drug and streptocides in the anamnesis.

Appropriate security measures at use.

 

Patients with hypersensitivity to furosemide, thiazide diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide), to sulphonylurea derivatives (Glibenclamidum), to inhibitors of a karboangidraza (Diacarbum) can have hypersensitivity to the Sulfacetamide.

Overdose:

At frequent use of drug reddening, an itch is possible, the century, considerable irritation of a mucous membrane of an eye swelled. In this case treatment is prolonged solution of the Sulfacetamide of smaller concentration, in case of need cancel drug and appoint a symptomatic treatment.

Storage conditions:

Period of validity. 2 years. Not to use drug after the termination of the period of validity specified on packaging. To store in the place protected from light at a temperature from 8 ºС to 15 ºС. To store in the place, unavailable to children.
