Dimexidum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: Dimethylsulfoxide. The colourless transparent liquid of a slight specific smell crystallizing at a temperature below 16 °C. It is hygroscopic. Rastvorima in water and alcohol.

Pharmacological properties:

Outside cure for topical administration for inflammatory and some other diseases (mainly at musculoskeletal system diseases). Drug has ability to get through biological membranes, including through skin barriers. The basis for use at inflammatory diseases of a musculoskeletal system is its analgetic and antiinflammatory action. Drug has moderate antiseptic and fibrinolitic effect. Strengthens penetration through skin of a number of medicinal substances. Dimexidum малотоксичен.

Indications to use:

The inflammatory and painful phenomena at complex therapy of a pseudorheumatism, a disease of Bekhterev, the deforming osteoarthrosis, arthropathies, and also at bruises, sprain, traumatic infiltrates, purulent wounds (which are not cleared or are badly cleared by usual methods of treatment), burns, phlegmons of various localization, etc. Use also at therapy of a knotty erythema. In combination with heparin it is applied at thrombophlebitises, in combination with germicides (Linimentum Synthomycini, etc.) - in complex treatment of a system scleroderma, furunculosis, erysipelatous inflammation, an acne, etc.

Route of administration and doses:

Outwardly. In the form of compresses, tampons generally in aqueous solutions of 30-50% of concentration. At treatment of an ugly face and trophic ulcers Dimexidum is applied in 30-50% aqueous solutions on 50-100ml 2-3 times a day. At eczema, diffusion streptodermas compresses from 40-90% are recommended by Dimexidum solution. At pustulous diseases of skin apply 40% Dimexidum solution.

For a local anesthesia at pain syndromes appoint 25-50% solution in the form of compresses on 100-150ml 2-3 times a day. At treatment of deep burns apply bandages from 20-30% Dimexidum solution.

Features of use:

Because Dimexidum can increase not only activity, but also toxicity of some drugs, it is necessary to be careful at its appointment along with other drugs.

It is recommended to carry out medicinal test on portability of drug. For this purpose Dimexidum is applied on skin by means of the cotton plug moistened in it. Emergence of sharp reddening and an itch testify to hypersensitivity. At emergence during treatment drug of allergic reactions appoint antihistaminic means.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions, seldom bronchospasm. Some patients badly perceive a drug smell (nausea, desires on vomiting).

Contraindications:

Disturbances of anti-toxic function of a liver and secretory function of kidneys, stenocardia, the expressed atherosclerosis, pregnancy, glaucoma, a cataract, a stroke, comas.

Storage conditions:

 Period of storage 2 years. In the dry, protected from light place.
