Gentamitsinovy ointment

General characteristics. Structure:

Active veshchest: Gentamycini sulfas of 0,1% and a basis (paraffin oil firm, vaseline) – to 100%.

Pharmacological properties:

Gentamycin – an antibiotic of a broad spectrum of activity from group of aminoglycosides. It is highly effective concerning gram-negative aerobic bacteria: Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp.

Drug is active also concerning gram-positive aerobic cocci: Staphylococcus spp. (including, steady against penicillin). Are steady against drug: Neisseria meningitidis, Treponema pallidum, some strains of Streptococcus spp., anaerobic microorganisms.

Indications to use:

The bacterial infections caused by sensitive microflora: a pyoderma, a superficial folliculitis, a furunculosis, paronychias, the sycosis infected seborrheal dermatitis, eels vulgar, secondary bacterial infection at fungal and viral infections of skin.

Route of administration and doses:

Ointment is applied a thin layer on affected areas of skin by 2-3 times a day after removal of pus and necrotic masses. At extensive damages of skin the daily dose of ointment should not exceed 200 g. Duration of treatment is established by the doctor.

Side effects:

In rare instances allergic reactions in the form of skin rash, an itch, a small tortoiseshell, a Quincke's disease.

Interaction with other medicines:

It is not necessary to appoint along with other antibiotics having from - and nephrotoxic action (streptomycin, Kanamycinum, флоримицин, Monomycinum, Ristomycinum), with furosemide. Activity of gentamycin decreases in the presence of ions of Na+, K+, Ca ++, Mg ++, and also a number of anions (sulfates, phosphates, nitrates, etc.). There are data on a synergism of combinations of gentamycin with a dioxidin and on increase in its therapeutic effectiveness at combined use with corticosteroids.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to antibiotics aminoglycosides. At drug use for a long time on the big surfaces of skin it is necessary to consider a possibility of resorptive action, especially at patients with a chronic renal failure.

With care to appoint the patient with neuritis of an acoustical nerve and to pregnant women.

Overdose:

At prolonged use of medicine in the doses exceeding recommended perhaps nephrotoxic (a proteinuria, an azotemia, etc.) and ototoksichesky (vestibular disturbances, it is rare — decrease in hearing) action, a hyperbilirubinemia, increase in activity of hepatic transaminases, changes of cellular composition of peripheral blood.
