Description:
Tetany (other - Greek — tension, catalepsy, a spasm) — the convulsive attacks caused by disturbance of exchange of calcium in an organism.
Tetany symptoms:
Tonic muscular spasms of various localization and duration; increase in electromechanical excitability of motor and sensory nerves; a hyperexcitability of the autonomic nervous system that leads to disturbances of functions of internals. During an attack sudden death from asphyxia or a cardiac standstill is possible. At the so-called hidden tetany attacks can arise under the influence of provocative factors, for example infections, intoxications.
Tetany reasons:
Have the parathyroprival nature, that is result from insufficiency or full loss of function of parathyroids (during their operational removal, inflammatory, etc. pathological processes), or are caused by loss of liquid at repeated vomiting, a diarrhea (a so-called gastrointestinal tetany).
Treatment of the Tetany:
The treatment replacing that is administration of hormone of parathyroids, calcium drugs etc.
