Description:
Pancreatectomy - the surgery consisting at a distance a pancreas. The total pancreatectomy (total pancreatectomy) (or Whipplc's operation operation) consists all pancreas and a part of a duodenum at a distance. At a subtotal pancreatectomy (subtotal pancreatectomy) the most part of a pancreas is removed; only its small site located near a duodenum is usually left. In case of a pancreatectomy (partial pancreatectomy) only its small part is removed. This operation is carried out in the presence of tumors of a pancreas or chronic or recurrent pancreatitis. After a total or subtotal pancreatectomy of the patient has to accept the enzymes produced by a pancreas to provide normal digestion of food; besides, to it insulin injections for substitution of that amount of hormone which usually cosecretes a pancreas are appointed.
