Hydrocortisone

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 10 mg of Hydrocortisoni acetas in 1 g of ointment.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Ointment of a hydrocortisone possesses glucocorticoid, antiinflammatory, antiallergic, antiedematous, antipruritic action. Inhibits A2 phospholipase, breaks synthesis of prostaglandins, activation of fabric kinin. Slows down migration of leukocytes and lymphocytes in the inflammation center.

Pharmacokinetics. After drawing on skin collects in epidermis. The absorbed part is metabolized in epidermis, and then — in a liver. Metabolites and an insignificant part of not changed hydrocortisone are removed with urine or bile.

Indications to use:

Ointment of a hydrocortisone is applied in complex therapy of inflammatory and allergic diseases of skin of not microbic etiology: allergic and contact dermatitis, eczemas, neurodermatitis, toksikodermiya.

Route of administration and doses:

Ointment of a hydrocortisone is applied a thin layer on affected areas of skin by 2 — 3 times a day. Duration of a course of treatment depends on the nature of a disease and efficiency of therapy, as a rule, makes 6 — 14 days. At the persistent course of a disease treatment of ointment of a hydrocortisone can be prolonged up to 20 days. At the limited centers of defeat for strengthening of effect it is possible to use occlusive bandages.

At use of ointment for children of 1 year is also more senior it is necessary to limit the general duration of treatment and to exclude use of the warming, fixing and occlusive bandages.

Features of use:

Excessive and too frequent use of drug during the day by adults or children can be followed by absorption and development of system side effects.

Side effects:

At hydrocortisone ointment use (especially patients with individual intolerance) can have a hyperemia, puffiness, an itch within the defeat center. At prolonged treatment also development of secondary infectious damages of skin, atrophic changes in it, a hypertrichosis is possible. For the prevention of infectious damages of skin it is recommended to appoint ointment in combination with antibacterial antifungal agents.

Interaction with other medicines:

The hydrocortisone reduces activity of salicylates, cardiac glycosides exponentiate a hypopotassemia, anabolic steroids — increase in hydrophily of fabrics.

Contraindications:

Use of ointment of a hydrocortisone is contraindicated at infectious diseases of skin (tuberculosis, pyodermas, mycoses), and also in the presence of cankers and wounds. Drug do not appoint pregnant.

Overdose:

At prolonged use of ointment, especially on big sites of skin, with use of impenetrable bandages, manifestations of systemic action of Hydrocortisoni acetas are possible.

In these cases treatment by medicine is stopped.
