Diabetic ketoacidosis is a life-threatening state which develops when cells of an organism cannot receive the sugar (glucose) necessary for them for energy, for example, if you have a diabetes mellitus and you did not enter to yourself enough insulin. Without insulin the organism cannot use sugar as an energy source. When cells do not receive sugar, the organism begins to destroy fat and muscles to receive energy from them. At the same time ketones or fatty acids which come to a blood stream are produced, causing a chemical imbalance (metabolic acidosis) called by diabetic ketoacidosis.
Symptoms of the Diabetic ketoatsitoz:
Your level of sugar of blood can already be rather high when you do note such symptoms:
* Hyperemic (red), hot, dry skin.
* The obscured sight.
* Feeling of thirst.
* Drowsiness or difficulty in the course of a prosypaniye. Small children can lose interest in their usual types of activity.
* The accelerated deep breath.
* A strong fruit smell of expired air (similar to a liquid smell for removal of a varnish or acetone).
* Appetite loss, abdominal pain and nausea.
* Confusion of consciousness.
At heavy diabetic ketoacidosis you can have a complicated breath, your brain can "bulk up" (wet brain) and there can be a risk of development of a coma or even death.
Reasons of the Diabetic ketoatsitoz:
Ketoacidosis can be caused by not introduction of enough insulin, a serious infectious disease or other disease, heavy dehydration (dehydration) or a combination of these factors. It can arise at people in whose organism there is not enough insulin or it is absent in general (most of people have a diabetes mellitus of 1 type, but can arise at diabetes 2 types), at increase in their sugar of blood to too high level.
Treatment of the Diabetic ketoatsitoz:
If ketoacidosis heavy, it has to be treated in hospital, is frequent in intensive care unit. Treatment consists in intravenous administration of insulin and solutions and careful control of certain chemical elements in blood (electrolytes). Recovery of normal level of sugar of blood and a water balance will take several days.
