Halazolinum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active agent – xylomethazolinum a hydrochloride of 0,5 mg and 1 mg.

Excipients: hydrophosphate sodium dodecahydrate, dihydrophosphate sodium monohydrate, sodium chloride, sorbitol, dinatrium эдетат, a benzalkoniya chloride solution of 50%, the water purified.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacokinetics. The beginning of action of xylomethazolinum comes in 5 - 10 minutes and proceeds within 10 hours. When drawing on a mucous membrane of a nose drug causes local vasoconstriction. Usually it is not soaked up in clinically significant quantities and has no systemic action.

Pharmacodynamics. Xylomethazolinum is derivative an imidazole with sympathomimetic action. Directly stimulates α-adrenergic receptors. At use on a mucous membrane drug causes vasoconstriction, eliminates hypostasis and a hyperemia of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx, reduces quantity of a secret.

Indications to use:

- acute rhinitis (cold) of virus or bacterial genesis;

- acute or chronic, recurrent inflammation of adnexal bosoms of a nose;

- allergic rhinitis;

- an acute inflammation of a middle ear - for the purpose of recovery of passability of an acoustical pipe.

Route of administration and doses:

Intranasal use.

For hygiene one packaging has to be intended only to one patient.

Âá½áº«½¿¡® 0,05%, drops nasal. 1 drop contains 0,025 mg of xylomethazolinum of a hydrochloride. 0,05% of a drop in a nose for children, aged from 2 up to 12 years: on 1-2 drops in each nasal course, 1 or 2 times a day, each 8 - 10 hours. It is not necessary to apply more than 3 times a day, in each nasal course. The course of treatment should not exceed 3-5 days.

Âá½áº«½¿¡® 0,1%, drops nasal. 1 drop contains 0,05 mg of xylomethazolinum of a hydrochloride. 0,1% of a drop in a nose for adults and children are more senior than 12 years: on 2-3 drops in each nasal course, each 8 - 10 hours. It is not necessary to apply more than 3 times a day, in each nasal course. The course of treatment should not exceed 3-5 days.

Features of use:

Drop of Галазолин® 0,05% children should not appoint younger than 2 years. At small children there can come excitement or difficulty of backfilling. If there come such symptoms, it is necessary to stop medicine reception.

It is not necessary to use drug at patients with chronic or vasculomotor rhinitis as they note a tendency to drug use longer than 5 days. Long use of medicine can lead to secondary expansion of blood vessels and afterwards to iatrogenic rhinitis (rhinitis medicamentosa). Medicine should not be used at pregnancy. There are no data concerning allocation of xylomethazolinum with breast milk. Use of medicine for women nursing demands respect for care.

Drug does not influence ability to control of vehicles and service of moving mechanisms if apply it in the recommended doses and within a short period of time.

At prolonged use or in high doses side effects from cardiovascular system and the central nervous system can appear.

Side effects:

Seldom:

- irritation and dryness of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx, burning in a nose and a throat, sneezing;

- allergic reactions (asthma, Quincke's edema).

Very seldom system reactions:

- nausea, headache, weakness, exhaustion, drowsiness;

- vision disorder;

- heartbeat, increase in arterial pressure (especially at persons with diseases of cardiovascular system).

Often:

- at frequent or prolonged use the irritation or dryness mucous a nose, an atrophy mucous a nose is possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

At combined use with tricyclic antidepressants and MAO inhibitors can lead to increase in arterial pressure. It is not necessary to accept drug during treatment by these medicines.

It is necessary to avoid simultaneous use of xylomethazolinum together with other simpatikomimetika (for example, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine) because of total action.

Contraindications:

- hypersensitivity to drug components;

- closed-angle glaucoma;

- atrophic rhinitis;

- surgical interventions on a meninx;

- children's age up to 2 years (for 0,05%);

- children's age up to 12 years (for 0,1%).

Overdose:

The overdose at children confirmed in rare instances is characterized by such symptoms as: increase and irregularity of pulse, increase in arterial pressure, drowsiness, depression of breath or irregular breath, disorder of consciousness. The symptomatic treatment is recommended.
