Dimexidum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: dimethyl sulfoxide;
1 bottle contains a dimethyl sulfoxide 50 ml.
Description. Colourless liquid or colourless crystals. Hydroscopic.

Pharmacological properties:

The dimethyl sulfoxide has feature to get through biological membranes, including skin barriers, realizing thus the specific effects to which belong antiinflammatory, antipyretic, analgetichesky, antiseptic, moderate fibrinolitic. Drug strengthens penetration through the unimpaired skin and mucous membranes of medicines
(ability to transportation). At solution application (90%) of Dimexidum for skin it appears in blood in 5 minutes, reaching the maximum concentration in 4-6 hours with preservation of almost not changed level within 1,5-3 days. Димексид® it is allocated with urine and a stake both in not changed look, and in the form of methyl sulphone.

Indications to use:

As a part of complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of a musculoskeletal system (the pseudorheumatism, Bekhterev's disease deforming an osteoarthrosis (in the presence of defeat of periartikulyarny fabrics); at an arthropathy, strained muscles at a bruise, traumatic infiltrates, acute and chronic osteomyelites, a streptoderma, purulent wounds, abscesses. It is applied also in skin and plastic surgery, to conservation of skin gomotransplantat.

Route of administration and doses:

Dimexidum is applied preferential in the form of aqueous solutions (30-50%) to tampons, compresses.
At diffusion streptodermas compresses from 40-90% are recommended by Dimexidum solution. At pustulous diseases of skin apply 40% solution. In skin and plastic surgery use bandages from 10-20% drug solution on auto-and gomotransplantata directly after operation and in the next days before permanent engraftment of a transplant. As the preserving means 5% apply Dimexidum solution to storage of skin gomotransplantat in Ringer's solution. Features of use:

Use during pregnancy or feeding by a breast. Drug is contraindicated to use during pregnancy. During treatment by a dimethyl sulfoxide it is necessary to stop feeding by a breast.
Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or work with other mechanisms. It is necessary to apply with care taking into account influence on the central nervous system, in particular probabilities of developing of dizziness.
Children. Not to use drug to children aged up to 12 years.

Side effects:

The dimethyl sulfoxide is usually well transferred, but at some patients allergic reactions (dermatitis, skin rash, a Quincke's disease, an itch, burning, a dermahemia, an erythema), a bronchospasm, dizziness, a headache, sleeplessness, an adynamia, nausea, vomiting are possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

The dimethyl sulfoxide strengthens effect of ethanol (alcohol slows down drug removal) and insulin, acetylsalicylic acid, Butadionum; drugs of a digitalis, quinidine, nitroglycerine, antibiotics (streptomycin, Monomycinum, etc.), chloramphenicol, rifampicin, griseofulvin, sensibilizes an organism to anesthetics. It is necessary to consider strengthening by drug of both specific activity, and toxicity of medicines. It is possible to apply together with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in complex therapy of the deforming osteoarthrosis and pseudorheumatism; in a combination with antimicrobic means of local action (Linimentum Synthomycini) – for treatment of a streptoderma.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to drug. Cardiovascular insufficiency, the expressed atherosclerosis, stenocardia, renal failures or a liver, a stroke, a myocardial infarction, comas, glaucoma, a cataract. Period of pregnancy or feeding by a breast. Appropriate security measures at use. Not to apply on the injured skin and skin with displays of an allergy. Not to apply on face skin. Before use of Dimexidum it is necessary to carry out a sensitivity test. For this purpose Dimexidum is applied on skin by means of the cotton plug moistened with Dimexidum. Sharp
reddening and itch of skin after drawing Dimexidum testify to individual hypersensitivity to drug. Patients of advanced age should use drug after preliminary consultation with the doctor.
Not to allow hit of drug on mucous membranes and in eyes. At accidental hit of drug in their eyes it is necessary to wash out immediately flowing water. At storage at a temperature of 18 °C and below crystallization of a dimethyl sulfoxide which does not influence quality of drug is possible. For fusion
crystals it is necessary to warm carefully a bottle with drug on the water bath (water temperature – about 60 °C). It is not necessary to violate rules of use of medicine, it can do much harm to health!

Overdose:

The overdose of drug can cause emergence of allergic reactions (urticaria, hypostasis) and strengthening of manifestations of side effect that demands phase-out of Dimexidum and performing symptomatic therapy.

Storage conditions:

Period of validity 3 years. Drug should not be used after the termination of the period of validity specified on packaging. To store in original packaging at a temperature not above 25 °C. To store in the place, unavailable to children.
