Pyrantelum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 1 g (1000 mg) of Pyrantelum (in the form of Pyrantelum of an embonat) in 1 ml of suspension.

Excipients: sorbitol, solution uncrystallizable, glycerin, Natrium benzoicum, sodium of a karmelloz, a makrogolglitserin hydroxystearate, povidone, citric acid monohydrate, fragrance AN1383 Strawberry, alcohol, the water purified.

Protivogelmintny means for treatment of nematodoses.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Pirantel-Pharma suspension - anthelmintic means. Causes neuromuscular blockade in sensitive helminths and provides their exile without excitement and stimulation of migration of the struck worms. In a gleam of intestines it is effective against mature and unripe sensitive helminths of both sexes. Drug is inefficient against larvae during migration

Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus is active concerning Entcrobius vermicularis.

Pharmacokinetics. Absorption. After intake medicine is almost not absorbed in a GIT. After intake in a single dose 10mg/kg body weights of Cmax are made by 0,005-0,13 mkg/ml and is reached within 1 - 3 hours.

Metabolism. It is metabolized partially in a liver to N-metil-1,3-propandiamina.

Removal. More than 93% of the soaked-up drug are removed through intestines, about 7% - kidneys in an invariable look or in the form of a metabolite.

Indications to use:

- enterobiosis;
- ascaridosis;
- анкилостомидоз;
- necatoriasis.

Route of administration and doses:

Orally, in time or after food. The daily dose of Pyrantelum makes 10 mg/kg. The maximum daily dose – 1 g. To shake up suspension before the use.

At an enterobiosis and an ascaridosis (and also at the mixed invasions these helminths) to adults and children medicine is appointed once.

At an ankilostomidoza the daily dose (10 mg/kg of body weight) is accepted within 3 days.

At severe forms of a necatoriasis (massive invasions of Necator americanus) appoint 10 mg/kg of body weight a day within 3 days or 20 mg/kg of body weight a day within 2 days.

Features of use:

Medicine contains sorbitol. Patients with rare hereditary diseases - intolerance of fructose - should not accept this medicine.

With care patients should appoint medicine with abnormal liver functions and to children 2 years are younger.

During treatment of a myasthenia it is not necessary to appoint Pirantel-Pharma.

Use of medicine is possible at any time (not necessarily on an empty stomach).

Use of medicine does not demand co-administration of purgatives.

At an enterobiosis all family members should appoint medicine. For the prevention of repeated infection it is necessary to follow strictly rules of hygiene (to wash hands, to cut and clean nails, not to allow combing of area of a crotch, daily to change bed and underwear).

In 14 days after use it is necessary to conduct a control parasitological research.

Pirantel-Pharma suspension is more effective at infection with a duodenal ankylostoma (Ancylostoma duodenale), than the American ankylostoma (Necator americanus).

Influence on ability to driving of motor transport and to management. In some cases against the background of reception of medicine there can be dizziness therefore it is necessary to be careful when performing the work demanding speed of psychomotor reactions.

Side effects:

From the alimentary system: seldom - nausea, vomiting, disturbances of appetite, an abdominal pain, diarrhea, increase in activity of hepatic transaminases.
From TsNS: in some cases - a headache, dizziness, drowsiness or sleeplessness, a hearing disorder, hallucinations, confusion of consciousness, paresthesia, a hyperthermia.

Allergic reactions: seldom - skin rash, a small tortoiseshell, a dieback.

Interaction with other medicines:

Simultaneous use with levamisole and piperazin is not recommended. Pyrantelum increases concentration of theophylline in plasma.

Contraindications:

- hypersensitivity to medicine;
- myasthenia;
- liver failure;
- children's age up to 6 months.

Pregnancy and lactation. At pregnancy to apply in urgent cases. For the period of treatment it is necessary to stop breastfeeding.

Overdose:

Symptoms: lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, spastic abdominal pains, diarrhea, headaches, drowsiness or sleeplessness, excitement, skin rash, abnormal liver function.

Treatment: gastric lavage, use of laxatives, symptomatic therapy.

Storage conditions:

To store in the place protected from light at a temperature not above +25 °C. To store in the place, unavailable to children. Period of validity 2 years.
