General characteristics. Structure:

International and chemical name: levamisole; (-) - 2,3,5,6-тетрагидро-6-фенилимидазо[2,1-b] thiazols a hydrochloride; main physical and chemical properties: tablets of white color;
structure: 1 tabetka contains levamisole of a hydrochloride 0,15 g; excipients: starch potato or corn, sugar milk, polyvinylpirrolidone low-molecular medical, stearic acid.

Pharmacological properties:

Protivogelmintnoye, immunomodulator. The mechanism of protivogelmintny action is caused by fumaratereductase oppression therefore biopower processes at helminths are broken; momentum transfer in nervous gangliya is blocked and the muscular system of helminth will be paralyzed.
Drug exerts complex impact on immune system, especially at immunosuppressive states: increases development of antibodies by various antigens, activates T lymphocytes and stimulates their proliferation, increases function of monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils (a chemotaxis, phagocytosis, adhesion).

Pharmacokinetics. Levamisole is quickly soaked up in digestive tract. The maximum concentration in a blood plasma is reached in 1,5-2 h. Is exposed to biotransformation in a liver with formation of inactive metabolites. The elimination half-life of levamisole makes 3-4 h, its metabolites – about 16 h. It is brought out of an organism preferential in the form of inactive metabolites by kidneys (more than 95%) and digestive tract – about 5%, including less than 0,2% in not changed look. Drug gets into breast milk.

Indications to use:

As protivogelmintny means appoint at an ascaridosis, a necatoriasis, a strongyloidosis, an ankilostomidoza.
As immunomodulator – at infectious diseases (the recurrent herpes simplex surrounding herpes, warts, a prolonged viral hepatitis, often recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, pyodermas); at immunodeficiency and immunodependent diseases, including autoimmune (a pseudorheumatism, a disease Krone, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, a disease of Reuters, a system lupus erythematosus), chronic nonspecific diseases of lungs, a chronic glomerulonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, a peptic ulcer of a stomach and duodenum, malignant new growths of bronchial tubes, a large intestine, mammary gland, a lymphogranulomatosis, a leukosis (after surgical, beam or chemotherapeutic treatment, during remission).

Route of administration and doses:

Drug is accepted during food, washing down with a small amount of liquid.
For treatment of helminthoses by the adult and to children 14 years are more senior appoint 150 mg (1 tablet) once, children are 7-14 years old - on 50, 75 or 100 mg (1/3, 1/2 or 2/3 tablets) once before going to bed. If necessary carry out a repeated course of treatment in 1 week.
As an immunomodulator the adult appoint 150 mg (1 tablet) of 1 times a day within 3 days each 2 weeks or on 150 mg a day once a week. 
The clinical effect begins to be shown not earlier than in 2-3 months after an initiation of treatment, for achievement of lasting effect duration of a course has to make not less than 6-8 months. 
In the absence of effect in 3-4 months of treatment further use of levamisole is inexpedient.

Features of use:

It is necessary to observe extra care at purpose of drug to patients with cerebrovascular disturbances, at the expressed renal or liver failure, at hemopoiesis oppression. Before an initiation of treatment it is necessary to conduct a research of peripheral blood. 
In need of treatment by levamisole in the period of a lactation at women breastfeeding needs to be cancelled.

Side effects:

At a single dose of drug abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea can be observed.
At long reception nausea, vomiting, dispepsichesky frustration, neurologic disturbances (olfactory hallucinations, nervousness, feeling of alarm, a headache, sleeplessness, paresthesias, peripheral polyneuropathy, disturbances of the speech), a grippopodobny syndrome (a fever, fever, nausea, the general weakness), ulcers of an oral cavity, thrombocytopenia, an agranulocytosis damage of kidneys (increase in concentration of creatinine in blood), an abnormal liver function, allergic reactions (a skin itch, rash, a small tortoiseshell) are possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

Drug strengthens effects of Phenytoinum and indirect anticoagulants. It is incompatible with alcohol (at joint reception the antabuspodobny syndrome develops), and also lipophilic connections (oils) as they increase toxicity of levamisole.

Contraindications:

The agranulocytosis, children's age to 7 is put, pregnancy, the lactation period at women, hypersensitivity to drug components.

Overdose:

At overdose the aggravation of symptoms of side effect can be observed (see. Side effect), disturbance of cordial activity, spasm. At emergence of signs of overdose it is necessary to cancel urgently administration of drug, to wash out a stomach, to accept absorbent carbon and to appoint symptomatic therapy; the specific antidote does not exist. For the prevention of overdose of drug it is necessary to adhere to strictly appointed scheme of treatment.

Storage conditions:
