Pharmacological properties:
The acyclovir is active concerning Herpes simplex 1 and 2 of types, the Varicella zoster virus, Epstein's virus Barre and cytomegaloviruses. The thymidinekinase of the cells infected with a virus through a number of consecutive reactions actively will transform an acyclovir to mono - di - and acyclovir triphosphate. The last interacts with virus DNA – a polymerase and is built in DNA which is synthesized for new viruses. Thus, "defective" virus DNA forms that leads to suppression of replication of new generations of viruses.
Pharmacokinetics. At local use it is practically not soaked up through intact skin, is not defined in blood and urine. When drawing on the affected skin absorption moderate; at patients with normal function of kidneys concentration in blood serum makes up to 0,28 mkg/ml, at patients with a chronic renal failure – to 0,78 mkg/ml. It is removed by kidneys (to 9,4% of a daily dose).
Indications to use:

Cream is applied with either a cotton plug, or clean hands to avoid additional infection of affected areas. Therapy should be continued till that time while on bubbles the crust is not formed or until they completely begin to live. Duration of therapy averages 5 days and should not exceed 10 days.
Features of use:
For achievement of the maximum therapeutic effect it is necessary to begin to use drug as soon as possible after the beginning of an infection (at the first symptoms of a disease: burning, itch, pricking, feeling of tension and reddening).
Cream is not recommended to be applied on mucous membranes of an oral cavity and eyes as development of the expressed local inflammation is possible. At treatment of genital herpes it is necessary to avoid sexual contacts or to use condoms as use of an acyclovir does not prevent transfer of a virus to partners.
