Clotrimazolum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 10 mg of Clotrimazolum in 1 ml of solution.

Excipients: isopropyl myristate, alcohol of ethyl 96%.

Antifungal broad-spectrum agent.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Antifungal broad-spectrum agent from group of derivatives of an imidazole. The mechanism of action is connected with disturbance of synthesis of ergosterol, is a part of a cellular membrane of mushrooms that causes change of its structure and properties and leads to a lysis of a cell, and also to braking of synthesis of nucleic acids and polysaccharides. Causes also increase in permeability of a phospholipidic cover of liposomes, cytoplasm vacuolation, decrease in quantity of ribosomes. In low concentration has a fungistasis on dermatophytes (types of Epidermophyton spp., Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp.), barmy fungi (sorts Candida, Cryptococcus neophormans, Malassezia furfur), Aspergillus spp. and mold, dimorphous fungi (Blastomyces dermatidis, Coccoidioides immitis, Sporotrichum schenckii). Shows antibacterial properties concerning streptococci and stafilokokk, and also trichomonads.

Pharmacokinetics. Clotrimazolum is minimum soaked up through the unimpaired skin and mucous membranes. It is supposed that topical administration of Clotrimazolum will hardly result in measurable system or side effects. Clotrimazolum collects in a corneous layer of epidermis, gets into a keratin of nails.

Indications to use:

- the fungal infections of skin and mucous membranes caused by dermatophytes, mold and drozhzhepodobny mushrooms;
- multi-colored deprive also an erythrasma;
- the mycoses complicated by a secondary pyoderma.

Route of administration and doses:

Medicine is applied with a thin layer (at the rate of several drops on surface area of the size of a palm) on affected areas of skin by 2-3 times a day and carefully rub. The course of treatment averages about 4 weeks, at disappearance of clinical displays of a disease it is reasonable to continue therapy within 2 weeks. If necessary the course of treatment can be repeated.

Features of use:

Not to allow hit of medicine on mucous membranes. The alcohol which is a part of drug (not less than 50%) is partially soaked up through skin and mucous membranes at external use therefore use of spirit solution of Clotrimazolum at children, pregnant women and women in the period of a lactation are not recommended, and use for elderly patients demands care.

To avoid use in around eyes as can cause irritation. At accidental hit in eyes – to wash out flowing water within several minutes.

At patients with a liver failure it is necessary to control a functional condition of a liver periodically.

If symptoms of a disease will not disappear within 4 weeks it is necessary to see a doctor.

Side effects:

In rare instances local allergic reaction, burning, an itch, temporary irritation in the place of use of solution can be shown. Very seldom erythema, rash, hypostasis, urticaria, epidermis peeling. Steam inhalation can cause drowsiness and a headache.

At external use the alcohol which is a part of drug (not less than 50%) is partially soaked up through skin and mucous membranes and can have resorptive all-toxic effect.

Interaction with other medicines:

This medicine can slow down action of other antifungal means of topical administration. Propyl ether of p-hydroxybenzoic acid in high concentration strengthens antifungal action of Clotrimazolum. Dexamethasone in high doses slows down antifungal action of Clotrimazolum.

At simultaneous use with Amphotericinum In and nystatin activity of Clotrimazolum decreases.

Contraindications:

- acute inflammatory processes with disturbance of integrity of integuments;
- supersensitivity to medicine components;
- I trimester of pregnancy.

Pregnancy and lactation. Use of medicine for pregnant women in the I trimester, and also in the period of a lactation is not recommended.

Storage conditions:

In the place protected from light at a temperature not above +25 °C. The alcohol which is contained in medicine (not less than 50%) can ignite. To store in densely closed container far from ignition sources. To store in the place, unavailable to children. Period of validity 3 years.
