Ascorbic acid

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 25 mg of ascorbic acid.

The medicine containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Ascorbic acid participates in oxidation-reduction processes, takes part in formation of an active form of folic acid, protects hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin, iron of tsitokhrom P450.

Ascorbic acid plays an important role in biosynthesis of collagen, serotonin, hormones of adrenal glands, a kannitina, promotes release of iron from the connected state with transferrin and to its absorption from intestines. Vitamin C is extracellular and intracellular antioxidant, actively connects free radicals. Antioxidant effect of ascorbic acid amplifies at combined use of tocopherol and Retinolum.

Route of administration and doses:

Pill is taken inside after food. Features of use:

Simultaneous use of drug with alkaline drink (mineral waters) reduces vitamin C absorption.

Ascorbic acid can influence results of various laboratory researches, for example, when determining content in blood of glucose, bilirubin, activity of transaminases, lactatedihydrogenases.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions are possible. At long use in high doses there can be a hyperglycemia, a glucosuria, arterial hypertension.

Interaction with other medicines:

Ascorbic acid increases concentration in blood of benzylpenicillin and tetracyclines, improves absorption in intestines of the drugs Fe (transfers trivalent iron to bivalent); can increase removal of iron at simultaneous use with Deferoxaminum; reduces efficiency of heparin and indirect anticoagulants.

Acetylsalicylic acid, oral contraceptives, fresh juice and alkaline drink reduce absorption and digestion of ascorbic acid.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to drug. It is not necessary to appoint high doses of drug the patient with the increased coagulability of blood, thrombophlebitises, tendency to fibrinferments. And also at the diabetes mellitus and states which are followed by the increased content of sugar in blood.

Overdose:

Storage conditions:
