Meratin

Meratin – antiprotozoan means.

Form of release and structure

Dosage forms:

• Tablets, coated: white color, have the round biconvex form and an engraving from two parties: on one party of "MERATIN", on another – "500" (on 10 pieces in packaging);
• Solution for infusions: transparent liquid from colourless till light yellow color, inodorous (on 100 ml in bottles).

Active ingredient of Meratin – орнидазол:

• 1 tablet – 500 mg;
• 1 ml of solution – 5 mg.

Auxiliary components:

• Tablets: propylene glycol, cellulose microcrystallic, starch, silicon dioxide colloid, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylparaben, gelatin white, ethyl cellulose, methylparaben, magnesium stearate, a gidroksipropilmetiltsellyuloz, sodium krakhmalglikolit, the titanium dioxide, talc purified;
• Solution: sodium chloride, water for injections.

In addition as a part of a cover of tablets: polyethyleneglycol 6000, titanium dioxide (E171), talc purified.

Indications to use

• Intestinal and abenteric forms of an amebiasis, including amoebic abscess of a liver and amoebic dysentery;
• Trichomoniasis;
• Prevention of development of infectious complications after surgical interventions on a rectum and operations in gynecology.

Contraindications

• Neurologic pathologies in an aggravation phase;
• Diseases of the central nervous system;
• I trimester of pregnancy;
• Breastfeeding period;
• Hypersensitivity to components of drug and derivatives of a nitroimidazole.

With care Meratin sick is recommended to appoint at damage of a brain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, liver diseases, alcoholism.

Use of drug in II and the III trimester of pregnancy is undesirable, it is shown only provided that the estimated advantage of therapy for mother significantly exceeds potential threat for a fruit.

Route of administration and dosage

Tablets:
Meratin in tablets accept inside after food. The mode of dosing and the period of use of drug are appointed by the doctor on the basis of clinical indications. The single dose for adults depends on indications and can make from 1 to 4 tablets. The daily dose for children with body weight to 35 kg is defined at the rate of 20-40 mg on 1 kg of weight.

The recommended dosing:

• Trichomoniasis: on 1 tablet 2 times a day within 10 days (with obligatory simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner), are allowed dose adjustment and durations of use of drug in case of the mixed forms of infections or development of complications. To children appoint a single dose of Meratin in a dose of 25 mg to 1 kg of weight;
• Amebiasis: on 3 tablets of 1 times a day (it is desirable in the evening), a course – 3 days, or on 1 tablet 2 times a day, the therapy period – 5-10 days. To children at an amebiasis drug is appointed once at the rate of 25 mg to 1 kg of weight;
• Lambliasis: at treatment of a lambliasis of the mixed and complicated forms the doctor selects the scheme and duration of therapy in an individual order. To children weighing up to 35 kg appoint on 40 mg to 1 kg a day.

Prevention of anaerobic infection should be carried out in 1-2 hours prior to planned surgical intervention, to the patient appoint a single dose of 2 tablets, and after operation – on 1 tablet 2 times a day within 3-5 days.

Solution for infusions:
Meratin in the form of solution for infusions is entered intravenously after dissolution into 0,9% solution of sodium chloride or 5% glucose solution.

The dose recommended for patients depending on age:

• 12 years are more senior: in the first days a single dose – 500-1000 mg within 20-30 minutes, then on 500 mg 3 times a day, the speed of infusion is up to 5 ml a minute;
• Up to 12 years: drug is appointed at the rate of 20 mg to 1 kg of weight of the child a day with hypodispersion on 3 introductions.

The period of treatment depends on indications, averages 5-10 days. The maximum daily dose for adults no more than 4000 mg.

Treatment of an amebiasis is recommended to begin with one-time introduction 500-1000 mg of drug, then on 500 mg every 12 hours. The course of therapy depends on weight of pathology and 3, 6 or 10 days can last.

To patients 12 years for prevention of infection when carrying out operation are more senior appoint one day before planned surgical intervention and in day of operation on 500-1000 mg of drug. Next day after operation the third introduction of Meratin in a dose of 1,5 mg on 1 kg of body weight is shown to the patient.

Side effects

• Perhaps: a slight passing condition of drowsiness, fatigue, a headache, dryness in a mouth, dyspepsia, excitement;
• Seldom: a hepatotoxic action against the background of long reception of high doses;
• Very seldom: hypersensitivity reactions – an itch, skin rash, a small tortoiseshell, a Quincke's disease, rigidity, a lack of coordination of movements, confusion of consciousness, a spasm, a tremor.

Special instructions

Non-compliance with the recommended mode of dosing increases risk of development of side effects of Meratin, especially at treatment of children.

At a convulsive syndrome against the background of drug overdose the patient needs to appoint diazepam.

Medicinal interaction

Drug strengthens clinical effect of indirect anticoagulants, increase in duration of effect of bromide is promoted by a vekuroniya.
