Salicylic ointment – means for treatment of skin diseases.
Pharmacological action
Salicylic ointment belongs to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, use it only outwardly.
Active ingredient of ointment – salicylic acid which renders antiinflammatory, disinfecting, local irritative and keratolytic action – deletes the keratosis phenomena (excessive keratinization of skin).

Indications to use of salicylic ointment
Ointment is appointed for treatment of infectious, inflammatory damages of skin, callosities, burns, warts, excessive sweating of feet, psoriasis, eels, by eczemas, fat seborrhea, an ichthyosis, a hair loss, a hyperkeratosis.
Route of administration
Salicylic ointment according to the instruction is applied once in two-three days. The recommended dosage – 0,2 g on 1 cm of skin. After processing the affected area of skin is covered with a sterile napkin. Before each change of a bandage the struck area is cleared of devitalized cells, open if necessary bubbles, process a surface an antiseptic agent.
Salicylic ointment is applied before recovery, a complete recovery of an affected area.
Callosities delete in 3-4 days of use of salicylic ointment after a preliminary softening them in warm water. If callosities badly are removed, treatment can be repeated.
Admissible dosage of ointment for adult patients – 10 ml or 2 g of salicylic acid. Children can impose on skin 1 ml of ointment a day (0,2 g of salicylic acid).
Side effects of salicylic ointment
There are reviews of salicylic ointment indicating that it can cause erubescence, burning, an itch, pain in the field of processing, temperature increase.
Contraindications
Salicylic ointment according to the instruction is contraindicated at a renal failure, hypersensitivity.
It is not recommended to use means for treatment of skin diseases at babies.
Also ointment cannot be applied on warts which are localized on a face and genitals, on the warts covered with hair and birthmarks.
At treatment of skin diseases at children it is not recommended to process several sites of skin at once.
Pregnant women can use ointment for processing of small sites of skin (for example, for treatment of callosities), in a dosage of 5 ml. Preliminary consultation of the doctor is obligatory.
Judging by reviews of salicylic ointment, its active ingredient is quicker soaked up when drawing funds for the becoming wet damages of skin or such that are followed by an inflammation or reddening.
During treatment it is considered that salicylic acid can increase absorbability of the outside means which are applied along with it. Besides it is established that acid can strengthen side effect of hypoglycemic drugs, a methotrexate, sulphonylurea derivatives.
