Lemon – a hybrid species of evergreen trees with sprawling, pyramidal krone and leathery leaves. Height of trees can reach five meters. It treats a sort of a citrus (family of rutic).

Besides, pulp contains vitamin P (cythrene) which contains only in a citrus. Tsitrin - the phenolic connection having high biological activity and having medical qualities.

Pectinaceous substances, sugar, derivative coumarin, phytoncides, flavonoids, sequiterpenes, эриоцитрин, hesperidin иэридиктиол also are a part of pulp of a citrus. Fat essential oil and limonene – bitter substance is a part of seeds. The peel of fruit contains 0,4-0,5% of essential oil.

Caloric content of a lemon is low. Caloric content of hundred grams of pulp of a lemon – about 40 calories. Caloric content of a lemon of the average sizes makes about 44 calories. Caloric content of a glass of tea with a teaspoon of lemon juice – about 15 calories.

Hundred grams of fruit contain 0,9 g of proteins, 0,1 g of fats, 3 g of carbohydrates, 2 g of food fibers and 88 g of water.

Useful properties of a lemon

Useful properties of a lemon for a human body are explained by existence of a large amount of useful substances and minerals in its structure. Uniqueness of advantage of a lemon consists that this citrus is capable to provide during all seasons of year a human body with necessary useful components – in the spring, in the period of avitaminosis, and in the winter, for immunity maintenance.

As medical raw materials lemon juice, pulp and a peel are used. Pulp and juice of a lemon are very useful at an urolithiasis, gastrointestinal diseases, avitaminosis, a hypertension.
