Anatomic nomenclature

Anatomic nomenclature (nomina anatomica; lat. nomenclatura – the list, the list) – the systematic list of anatomic terms. Distinguish international (in Latin) and national (in English, Russian, German and other languages) anatomic nomenclatures.

Allocate:

  • Anatomic nomenclature Basel (Baseler Nomina Anatomica; BNA) – the first international list of anatomic terms accepted in 1895 in Basel at a congress of the German anatomic society. The terms specifying the direction, the relation and the provision of parts of a body in relation to the person who is in vertical position are its basis;
  • Anatomic nomenclature Yenskaya (Jenaer Nomina Anatomica; JNA) – the list of anatomic terms accepted in 1935 in Yen at a congress of the German anatomic society. The anatomic nomenclature Yenskaya did not get the international approval as it is made in relation to position of a body of four-footed animals;
  • Anatomic nomenclature Parisian (Parisiana Nomina Anatomica; PNA) – the existing international list of anatomic terms accepted in 1955 in Paris on the VI International congress of anatomists developed on the basis of the Basel anatomic nomenclature; is a basis of the Russian anatomic nomenclature.
