Boric ointment
Application instruction:
Boric ointment is an antiseptic agent (antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic) which is widely applied in dermatology.
International name: Boric acid.
Pharmacological group: antiseptic agent.
Main active ingredient: Boric acid.
Release form: ointment of 5% on 25 g in banks and tubas.
Pharmacological action
In the instruction Boric ointment is specified how antibacterial, antifungal and antiparasitic (protivopedikulezny) agent. Together with oxyquinoline sulfate ointment has contraceptive property.
Can get into blood through microcracks of skin, a wound, mucous membranes. Collects in body tissues (effect of cumulation). It is removed with urine in 5-7 days.
Indications to use of Boric ointment
Use of Boric ointment is possible in the following cases:
- At skin diseases (different types of eczema, dermatitis, pyoderma, intertrigo),
- At gynecologic diseases (colpitis),
- At parasitic diseases (pediculosis).
- For contraception (ointment in combination with oxyquinoline sulfate).
As the alternative option of 5% and 2-4% of solution of boric acid, ointment can be applied also:
- At diseases of eyes (conjunctivitis),
- At LOR-diseases (otitises).
Application instruction of Boric ointment and dose
Use of Boric ointment - only outwardly.
At conjunctivitis put ointment in a conjunctival sac, at otitises – in ear pass, at dermatitis apply ointment only on the unimpaired sites of skin.
At a pediculosis apply 10-25g ointments on pilar sites of head skin, hold 20-30 min. and wash away warm water. After the procedure carefully comb hair a crest.
Contraindications to use of Boric ointment
Contraindications to putting ointment on skin are: individual intolerance of components of medicine, a chronic renal failure, inflammatory diseases of skin in the acute period, pregnancy, age till 1 year, the feeding period a breast (it is impossible to process breast leather ointment before feeding of the child).
At extensive injuries of a body, drug is applied carefully, only on complete covers of skin.
Side effects
In the instruction to Boric ointment its following side effects are specified: dispepsichesky manifestations (vomiting, diarrhea, nausea), skin rashes, exfoliating of an epithelium of skin, headache, spasms, decrease in daily amount of urine, consciousness inconsistency, and sometimes depressed case.
Boric ointment can get into blood through injuries of skin and collect in an organism. Owing to prolonged use of drug or at its absorption in blood can, work disturbance symptoms appear:
- serdechnososoudisty (arrhythmias, lowering of arterial pressure),
- nervous (block, fervescence, shock, coma),
- secretory (acute or chronic renal failure) systems,
- inflammation of skin and mucous (erythema, eczema, stomatitis),
- perhaps also baldness and disturbance of a menstrual cycle at women.
