Magnesium hydroxide (e528) – nutritional supplement of group of emulsifiers.
Characteristic
Externally chemical 
compound represents crystal powder of white color, inodorous, with characteristic taste of alkali. Apply e528 as nutritional supplement. Its main destination – stabilization of shades of products and regulation of acidity.
At a temperature of 350 degrees Celsius magnesium hydroxide decays on water and magnesium oxide. In water it is practically not dissolved. From air absorbs carbon dioxide and water, at the same time forming the main magnesium carbonate. In the nature e528 it is possible to meet in the form of special mineral – brucite.
Receiving magnesium hydroxide
Commercially receiving magnesium hydroxide happens by means of interaction of salts of magnesium to various alkalis.
Also chemical compound is received by chloride magnesium solution reaction with the burned dolomite, or at interaction of vapors of water with metal magnesium.
Properties of magnesium hydroxide
The food industry of property of magnesium hydroxide gained distribution at production of products from cocoa (to 70 g/kg), tinned vegetables (salty and fermented vegetables, sauces, marinades, vegetable snack canned food, vegetable natural canned food), cheese. As nutritional supplement e528 apply to sulfur dioxide binding.
Use substance as flocculant for sewage treatment, as additive in various detergents, antiperspirants, deodorants and toothpaste. Apply to refinement of sugar and receiving magnesium oxide.
The special attention is deserved by the properties of magnesium hydroxide allowing to use it in medicine. Substance has antiacid and laxative effect, reduces activity of a gastric juice and neutralizes hydrochloric acid in a stomach. At the same time, use e528 is not followed changes by KShchR or secondary hypersecretion of hydrochloric acid. Also in medicine substance is used for increase in a vermicular movement of intestines. Begins to work as laxative 2-6 hours later after use.
Indications 
to use of chemical compound: heartburn after the use of coffee, alcohol or smoking, chronic gastritis with normal or hypersecretion, stomach ulcer and a 12-perstny gut, locks, pains in epigastriums and feeling of discomfort.
Hydroxide – means which is used at an acute duodenitis, stomach ulcer, a gastralgia, heartburn, chronic pancreatitis, fermentative or putrefactive dyspepsia, hyperacid gastritis gained distribution in medicine алгелдрат magnesium. However, it is necessary to know that this drug is contraindicated to patients with hypersensitivity to magnesium hydroxide, at Alzheimer's disease and during pregnancy and a lactation. Nutritional supplement e528 is prohibited in Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand. In general, additive for an organism is considered harmless. However its use in big concentration can provoke a gastric disturbance and cause a diarrhea as it soaks up liquid from intestines, increasing its motility.
