Sacrum

The sacrum represents the uniform bone formed by five bodies of sacral vertebrae which grew together among themselves. Thanks to this union the sacrum is capable to bear the big loadings which are dropping out on it in connection with vertical position of a body of the person. It has the form of a triangle which basis is turned up, and top - down. The basis of a sacrum connects to a body of the last vertebra of lumbar department and the speaker forms the cape (ledge) forward.

On it there are five bone longitudinal crests which are the place of merge joint, cross and acanthas of sacral vertebrae.

Pain in a sacrum

Among all pains arising in a backbone the strongest are pains in a sacrum. In medicine they are designated by the term a sacrodynia. Pain in a sacrum arises at women more often. It is connected with the fact that bodies of female vertebrae not such strong as at men and, therefore, they transfer exercise stresses much worse. In addition on a sacrum of women considerable loadings during pregnancy and childbirth drop out. Can be origins of pains in a sacrum:

  • Traumatic damages;
  • Anomalies of development of sacral department of a backbone;
  • Thrombophlebitis of pelvic and/or ileal veins;
  • Osteochondrosis;
  • Spondylolisthesis;
  • Tumors;
  • Infectious diseases;
  • Expansions of a sigmoid gut;
  • Disbolism.

In addition pain in a sacrum at women can arise during periods, at the wrong position of a uterus and at a number of gynecologic diseases. Pain in a sacrum can be caused in men by chronic prostatitis or adenoma of a prostate.

Pains in a sacrum: treatment

At emergence of painful feelings in the field of a sacrum it is necessary to see the neurologist. If necessary he will appoint carrying out consultations of adjacent specialists: traumatologist, gynecologist, urologist.

At a sacrum change treatment in most cases conservative. Appoint a high bed rest (lying on a stomach) for a period of three – four weeks. Surgical treatment is carried out according to very limited indications (massive bleeding from the damaged vessels, unstable changes). During operation make a stop of bleeding (hemostasis) then carry out an osteosynthesis by means of special screws. Victims should not pass to the active mode to a full union of a change since non-compliance with this condition can lead to development of secondary neurologic disturbances.

After cancellation of a bed rest begin gradual activation of the injured patient, appoint physical therapy, massage. Occupations are shown by physiotherapy exercises.
