Sulfadimethoxine

Sulfadimethoxine – the antibacterial medicine having a wide range of use.
Pharmacological action
Active component of Sulfadimethoxine has antibacterial effect in the relation:
- Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.;
- Chlamydia trachomatis;
- Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Shigella spp.
At intake according to indications Sulfadimethoxine, in comparison with other antibiotics, has long effect.
Form of production of Sulfadimethoxine
Sulfadimethoxine is produced in a dosage form of tablets which contain 200 or 500 mg of the active agent of the same name. On 10, 20 and 30 pieces in packaging.
Sulfadimethoxine as active ingredient is a part of ointment for external use Levosin.
Sulfadimethoxine analogs on a way of action are the drugs Sulfalene and Sulfapyridazinum in the form of tablets and Sulfalene Megluminum in a dosage form of solution for injections.
Indications to Sulfadimethoxine use
Sulfadimethoxine according to the instruction is appointed for treatment of the infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by the microorganisms showing sensitivity to active component of drug. Treat such diseases:
- Quinsy;
- Otitis;
- Dysentery;
- Erysipelatous inflammation;
- Trachoma;
- Antritis;
- Bronchitis;
- Inflammatory diseases of biliary and urinary tract;
- Wound fevers.
Contraindications
According to the instruction it is contraindicated to apply Sulfadimethoxine in the following cases:
- At oppression of a marrowy hemopoiesis;
- At porphyrias;
- At a renal and liver failure;
- At an azotemia;
- At chronic heart failure;
- During pregnancy and a lactation;
- At inborn deficit glyukozo-6-fosfatdegidrogenazy;
- At hypersensitivity to components of Sulfadimethoxine and streptocides.
During treatment Sulfadimethoxine according to the instruction recommends plentiful alkaline drink.
Sulfadimethoxine route of administration
In the first day of treatment Sulfadimethoxine according to the instruction the adult is appointed on 1 g, children – on 25 mg/kg, and for the next days the dose is reduced twice. The daily dosage is accepted with an interval by not less days.
At severe forms of a disease use of Sulfadimethoxine is shown in a combination with drugs of group of erythromycin, penicillin and some other.
As a rule, use of Sulfadimethoxine effectively lasting treatment from seven to ten days. Maintenance doses of drug should be accepted for at least three days after temperature is normalized.
At a severe disease the daily dose of Sulfadimethoxine can be according to reviews increased.
At steady forms of malaria the therapy which is carried out by Sulfadimethoxine should be combined with antimalarial drugs.
At treatment it is necessary to consider that:
- Sulfadimethoxine reduces efficiency of some bactericidal antibiotics;
- Antibacterial activity of drug is reduced by benzocaine, Procainum and pantocain;
- Barbiturates and p-aminosalicylic acid reduce antimicrobic effect of Sulfadimethoxine.
Besides, Sulfadimethoxine:
- Cyclosporine strengthens metabolism of immunodepressantny drug;
- Can reduce efficiency of oral contraceptives.

Side effects of Sulfadimethoxine
