Pharmacological action
Halazolinum – the vasoconstrictive drug used in the LOR-expert.
The operating Halazolinum component - xylomethazolinum, being the antagonist of alfa2-adrenoceptors. Use of drug allows to narrow vessels of a mucous membrane of a nose, to eliminate its hypostasis and a hyperemia (congestion), and also to reduce exudation (the liquid part of blood leaving through a vascular wall).
Properties of Halazolinum contribute to normalization of passability of an Eustachian tube (the channel from a middle ear to a throat), the nasal courses, openings of bosoms that allows to facilitate nasal breath.
Long use of Halazolinum (more than two weeks) can provoke secondary expansion of blood vessels and lead to medicamentous rhinitis.
The effect of Halazolinum develops within 5-10 minutes after use and is observed for 6-8 hours.
Indications to use of Halazolinum
According to the instruction, it is reasonable to apply Halazolinum at acute rhinitis (allergic, bacterial, virus), an eustachitis, sinusitis and average otitis.
Application instruction of Halazolinum
Halazolinum is issued in the form of the gel, spray, spray dosed and the spray dosed with menthol and an eucalyptus. Halazolinum children's is, as a rule, presented to 0,5% by drug forms which 1 drop corresponds to 0,025 mg of xylomethazolinum.
Halazolinum of a drop of 0,1% to adults and children is more senior than 12 years are appointed in volume of 2-3 drops in each nasal course. An instillation it is necessary to spend each 8-10 hours.
Halazolinum children's (0,5%) in the form of drops is dug in with the same frequency, as the adult: on 1 drops to children from 4 months to two years; on 2-3 drops to children from 2 to 12 years.
Gel Halazolinum which use assumes bystry one-time pressing the doser is used each 8-10 hours on one pressing in each nasal course: children are 3-12 years old – 0,5% drug, to children 12 years and adult – 1% drug are more senior.
Drop Halazolinum, as well as other forms of drug, usually apply 3-5 days.
Side effects
The instruction to Halazolinum warns about such possible undesirable reactions as a xeromycteria, burning, sneezing, feeling of a congestion of a nose.
The local overdose of drug can provoke the increased arterial pressure, tachycardia, fatigue, sleeplessness, concern, nausea, a headache.
Contraindications to use of Halazolinum
If Halazolinum was appointed, the instruction has to be attentively studied as at a number of diseases use of drug is contraindicated:
- atrophic rhinitis;
- closed-angle glaucoma;
- the increased intracranial pressure;
- the expressed atherosclerosis;
- hyperthyroidism;
- arterial hypertension;
- diabetes mellitus;
- tachycardia;
- pheochromocytoma.
Halazolinum drops and other forms of drug are not appointed at simultaneous use of MAO inhibitors, and also within two weeks after completion of their reception.
It is not necessary to apply Halazolinum and at hypersensitivity to xylomethazolinum. According to strict indications use of drug is possible during pregnancy and feeding by a breast.
Additional information
Storage of drug should be carried out in the dark place at a temperature corresponding 15-250C. Halazolinum period of validity – 4 years.
