Artificial insulin for the medical purposes is produced from glands of pancreatic pigs, cattle, use also genetic engineering.

Drug is produced in the form of solution which 1 ml contains 20, 40, 80 PIECES of insulin.

Indications to Insulin use

The main use of drug - treatment of diabetes of sugar 1st type. In some cases it is applied also at diabetes of the 2nd type.

The small dose of insulin (5-10ED) is applied to treatment of hepatitis, cirrhosis in an initial stage, at exhaustion, a furunculosis, acidosis, bad food, a thyrotoxicosis.

Drug can be used at a nervous breakdown, for treatment of alcoholism, some forms of schizophrenia.

Route of administration

The necessary dose of drug is determined individually by results of analyses, including data on the level of sugar, insulin in blood therefore it is possible to give only average admissible norms.

The necessary dose of insulin at a diabetes mellitus fluctuates within 10-40ED in day.

At a coma diabetic in days it can be subcutaneously entered no more than 100ED, and at intravenous administration – it is no more than 50ED in day.

According to other indications appoint drug in small doses – 6-10ED/put.

For insulin injections the syringe is used special, with the built-in needle which design provided introduction of all its contents without the rest that allows to adhere to an exact dosage of drug.

Before typesetting in the insulin syringe in the form of suspension contents of a bottle should be stirred up that the uniform suspension was formed

Usually daily dose is entered for two-three receptions. The injection is given for half an hour, hour before meal. Effect of insulin, its single dose, begins in half an hour, hour and continues 4-8ch.

Effect of the insulin entered intravenously begins already through 20-30min., the level of sugar goes down to initial in one-two hours.

Side effects

At administration of drug the lipodystrophy subcutaneously can develop. Also drug can cause an allergy.

The raised insulin because of its overdose can lead to hypoglycemic shock. Symptoms: the increased salivation, sweating, weakness, short wind, dizziness, heartbeat, is rare – a coma, spasms, nonsense, a loss of consciousness.

Contraindications to Insulin use

Insulin is contraindicated at: an acute hepatitis, jaundice hemolitic, cirrhosis, a renal amyloidosis, an urolithiasis, dekompensirovanny cordial defects, a peptic ulcer of a duodenum, a stomach, diseases which are followed by a hypoglycemia.
