Ketoprofen

Ketoprofen is the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used for a symptomatic treatment of arthritises and acute pains.

Pharmacological action

Ketoprofen has antiinflammatory, analgetic, febrifugal properties, and also suppresses pasting of thrombocytes.

The therapeutic effect of Ketoprofen is caused by its ability to oppress synthesis of the enzyme participating in synthesis of prostaglandins and to reduce biosynthesis directly of prostaglandins responsible for emergence of hypostases and pain in the inflammation center. Use of Ketoprofen allows to weaken a joint pain at stay at rest and the movement, to reduce morning swellings and constraint of joints, to increase the volume of the movement.

The antiinflammatory effect of Ketoprofen can be observed by the end of the first week of treatment. The maximum concentration of drug in blood is reached in 15-30 minutes after use of Ketoprofen in the form of injections, in 1-4 hours after introduction of rectal candles and in 1-2 hours after oral administration. Ketoprofen preferential by kidneys and about 1% - intestines is removed.

Indications to Ketoprofen use

The instruction recommends to appoint Ketoprofen at:

• symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammations of joints (arthritises): rhematoid polyarthritises (destruction of a bone, joint cartilage), psoriasis arthritises (an inflammation of joints against the background of psoriasis), ankylosing spondylarthrites (a backbone disease), gout (a disease of joints at which in fabrics salts of uric acid are laid), arthroses with a pain syndrome;
• symptomatic treatment of the diseases of a musculoskeletal system having inflammatory and degenerative character: the tendinitis (a sinew tissue inflammation), tendosinovit (an inflammation around a sinew of a protective membrane), a lumbago (an acute pain in a waist), a bursitis (an inflammation of mucous bags in joints);
• symptomatic short treatment of an acute pain syndrome: neuralgia, backbone pain, muscle pain;
• complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of lymph nodes, absorbent vessels, veins: limfangiit (an inflammation of absorbent vessels), superficial lymphadenitis (an inflammation of lymph nodes), a periphlebitis (an inflammation of perivenous cellulose and veins), phlebitis (a vein wall inflammation).

Ketoprofen gel is applied at sports uncomplicated injuries, gaps or strained muscles and sheaves, bruises of sheaves and muscles, posttraumatic hypostases and pains.

Contraindications

According to the instruction, Ketoprofen is not appointed at:

• heavy abnormal liver functions or kidneys;
• peptic ulcer in an aggravation phase;
• inflammatory diseases of intestines;
• blood coagulation disturbances;
• hypersensitivity to ketoprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Ketoprofen is contraindicated to use in the third trimester of pregnancy, during feeding by a breast, to children up to 14 years.

Ketoprofen of a candle are not appointed at a proctitis (an inflammation of a mucous membrane sigmoid and a rectum) and proctorrhagias (bleeding from an anus).

Ointment it is not necessary to apply ketoprofen at eczema (enanthesis), the becoming wet dermatosis and contaminated wounds.

With care the instruction recommends to apply Ketoprofen at bronchial asthma, anemia, a liver failure, alcoholism, sepsis, hypostases, chronic heart failure, stomatitis, arterial hypertension, a diabetes mellitus, cankers of a digestive tract in the anamnesis. Use of Ketoprofen in the first and second trimester of pregnancy is possible only according to strict indications.

Application instruction of Ketoprofen

For oral administration Ketoprofen which use allows to combine several dosage forms is produced in the form of tablets, tablets of the prolonged action, drops, capsules, granules.

Drops and the pill Ketoprofen it is necessary to take during food 3 times a day on 100 mg. Tablet ketoprofen ретард (the prolonged action) about 150 mg are appointed each 12 hours. Drug in capsules is accepted in the morning and in the afternoon on 50 mg, and in the evening – 100 mg. Ketoprofen the instruction recommends to accept granules 2-3 times a day on 80 mg (1 bag). The single dose for children and elderly people corresponds to 40 mg. Before reception contents of a bag are dissolved in ½ glasses of water.

Candles Ketoprofen are entered into proctal pass in a dose of 100 - 200 mg daily.

Intravenous and intramuscular use of Ketoprofen assumes introduction 1-3 times a day on 160 mg of drug.

For external use use cream and gel Ketoprofen. To apply gel and ointment Ketoprofen to children 12 years are more senior and 2-3 times a day in a small amount (3-5 cm) are recommended to adults. After drawing Ketoprofen gel and ointment follows is long and carefully to rub in the painful or inflamed body parts. To children of 6-12 years Ketoprofen gel is appointed to use not more often than 2 times a day 1-2 cm.

Without consultation of the doctor it is not recommended to apply gel and ointment Ketoprofen longer than two weeks.

Side effects

Suppositories, the tablets Ketoprofen, and also other forms of drug, are intended for oral and parenteral administration, can become the reason of such undesirable reactions of an organism as:

• abdominal pain, meteorism, heartburn, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abnormal liver function, stomatitis;
• dizziness, nervousness, excitement, depression, drowsiness, headache, confusion of consciousness;
• sight illegibility, sonitus, decrease in hearing, eye pain, conjunctivitis;
• increase in arterial pressure, tachycardia;
• leukopenia (decrease in level of leukocytes), anemia (the lowered level of erythrocytes or hemoglobin), thrombocytopenia (decrease in quantity of thrombocytes), agranulocytosis (disappearance from blood of granulocytes);
• edematous syndrome (accumulation of excess liquid in an organism), urethritis (urethra inflammation), cystitis (bladder inflammation), nephrotic syndrome (disease of kidneys of which allocation with urine of a large amount of protein is characteristic), renal failure;
• skin itch, skin rash, rhinitis, bronchospasm, Quincke's disease;
• the strengthened sweating, nasal bleeding, pneumorrhagia, thirst, asthma.

At prolonged use Ketoprofen can provoke expression of a mucous membrane of a digestive tract, gastrointestinal, vaginal, hemorrhoidal, gingival bleeding.

Gel and ointment Ketoprofen can become the dermahemia reason (red large spots on skin), purpuras (coloring of skin as a result of an exit of erythrocytes from capillaries), skin rash, a photosensitization (sensitivity to action of ultraviolet rays), an itch, burning, other allergic reactions.

Additional information

To store tablet Ketoprofen, as well as other forms of drug, follows at the room temperature. A solution period of validity for injections – 3 years, all other dosage forms – 5 years.
