Gamma therapy

Gamma therapy (gamma-therapia; scale (-radiation) + Greek therapéia – leaving, treatment) – one of types of radiation therapy which is based on use of gamma radiation.

Types of a gamma therapy:

  • Application – carried out by means of imposing on mucous membranes or skin of radioactive applicators;
  • Intracavitary – carried out by way of introduction to perigastriums of the patient of sources of gamma radiation;
  • Interstitial – carried out by way of introduction of sources of gamma radiation by means of radionosny tubules or needles directly in fabric;
  • Remote (synonym: telegamma therapy) – the source of gamma radiation is located at distance of 6-75 cm from a body surface;
  • Short-focus (synonym: a gamma therapy korotkodistantsionny) – the source of gamma radiation is located at distance of 3-6 cm from a body surface.
