Capsules: the size No. 4, firm gelatinous, with the dark gray case with a white text on it of "JANSSEN" and a green lid with a white text of "Imodium" on it; contents of capsules – white powder (on 6 or 20 pieces in blisters, on 1 blister in a cardboard pack);
Tablets for a rassasyvaniye: round, lyophilized, almost white or white color (on 6 or 10 pieces in blisters, on 1 or 2 blisters in a cardboard pack).

Is a part of 1 capsule:

Active agent: loperamide – 2 mg (in the form of a hydrochloride);
Auxiliary components: monohydrate of lactose, talc, corn starch, magnesium stearate.

Structure of a cover of the capsule: gelatin, titanium dioxide, ferrous oxide yellow and black, индиготиндисульфонат sodium, sodium erythrosine.

Is a part of 1 tablet:

Indications to use

Imodium appoint at treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, and also for regulation of a chair at patients with ileostomy.

Contraindications

Pseudomembranous coloenteritis (the diarrhea connected with reception of antibiotics);
Acute ulcer colitis;
The acute dysentery and other infections of digestive tract (caused including Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp.);
Divertuculosis;
Intestinal impassability (including in cases when suppression of a vermicular movement is not recommended);
First trimester of pregnancy and period of breastfeeding (lactation);
Age up to 6 years;
Hypersensitivity to drug components.

Imodium patients should apply with care with a liver failure.

In the II-III trimesters of pregnancy Imodium it is possible to accept only in cases when the estimated advantage for health of mother is higher than potential risk for a fruit.

Route of administration and dosage

Imodium accept inside.

The initial dose at treatment of acute diarrhea for adults and patients of advanced age makes 4 mg, for children of 6 years – 2 mg. Further at a liquid chair all age groups of patients should accept drug on 2 mg after each act of defecation.

At chronic diarrhea Imodium appoint in the same initial dose, as at treatment of acute diarrhea. In an effect the dose needs to be adjusted so that the frequency of a chair made 1-2 times a day that is usually reached at reception of the supporting daily dose of 2-12 mg.

At treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea the maximum daily dose makes:

Adult – 16 mg;
Children – on 3 mg on 10 kg of body weight (no more than 16 mg).

At normalization of a chair or in the absence of a chair longer 12 hours therapy should be cancelled.

Tablets for a rassasyvaniye need to be put on language. Within several seconds on a language surface it is dissolved, and it it will be possible, without washing down with water, to swallow with saliva.

Side effects

During therapy development of disturbances from some systems of an organism is possible:

Central and peripheral nervous system: drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness;
Alimentary system: dryness in a mouth, abdominal distention and/or a lock, intestinal colic, discomfort or an abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea; very seldom – intestinal impassability;
Allergic reactions: skin rash;
Others: feeling of a pricking or burning of language (appears right after administration of drug in the form of tablets for a rassasyvaniye); seldom – an ischuria.

Special instructions

At development of a lock or abdominal distention Imodium's reception should be stopped immediately.

At diarrhea, especially at children, the hypovolemia and decrease in content of electrolytes can develop. In these cases it is important to carry out replacement therapy for completion of electrolytes and liquid.

As therapy of diarrhea by Imodium only symptomatic, along with administration of drug, whenever possible, it is necessary to apply etiotropic means.

At acute diarrhea if for 48 hours clinical improvement is not observed, therapy it is necessary to stop and specify the diagnosis, having excluded infectious genesis of diarrhea.

It is impossible to accept Imodium at the diarrhea which is followed by blood impurity in a chair and high temperature.

At patients with AIDS at emergence of the first signs of abdominal distention it is necessary to stop therapy immediately. In some cases at patients with AIDS at infectious colitis of the bacterial and virus nature during therapy the toxic megacolon can develop.

Patients with functional disturbances of a liver need to be under careful observation for early detection of symptoms of toxic defeat.

During therapy it is recommended to keep to a diet and to monitor timely completion of liquid.

It is necessary to consider that tablets for a rassasyvaniye rather brittle therefore to avoid damage, they need to be taken from packaging with care.

During Imodium's reception it is recommended to abstain from control of motor transport and performance of potentially dangerous types of the works demanding high concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
