Ketorol

Ketorol is analgeziruyushchy drug with antiinflammatory and febrifugal action.

Pharmacological action

Active agent of Ketorol is кеторолак which, oppressing activity of enzyme of cyclooxygenase, promotes braking of biosynthesis of prostaglandins, the representing modulators of an inflammation, thermal control and painful sensitivity.

The anesthetizing action Ketorol of pricks can be observed already in half an hour after introduction, and the maximum effect – in 1-2 hours.

The therapeutic effect of Ketorol remains within 4-6 hours.

Indications to use

The instruction recommends to appoint Ketorol at moderately or strongly expressed pain syndrome: muscle and spin pains, pain at injuries in joints, stretchings, dislocations, postoperative pains, neuralgia, oncological diseases, radiculitises, a dentagra, migraine, burns, etc.

Application instruction Ketorol

Ketorol whose use is reasonable only at an acute pain syndrome, but not for treatment of chronic pain, is issued in the form of tablets and solution for intramuscular injections.

Depending on expressiveness of a pain syndrome Ketorol tablets can be appointed once or repeatedly.

It is once usually recommended to accept 10 mg (1 tab.), and repeatedly – on 10 mg, but no more than 4 times a day. Ketorol longer 5 days are contraindicated to take a pill.

Solution for injections should be entered in deeply intramuscular way. To patients Ketorol is younger than 65 years pricks appoint in a dose 10-30 mg once or the same dose - each 4-6 hours, at the same time the maximum daily dose should not exceed 90 mg. To patients Ketorol is more senior than 65 years injections are given according to the scheme described above, with only that difference that the maximum single dose has to correspond to 15 mg, and the maximum daily – 60 mg. Ketorol pricks can be applied not longer than 5 days.

Upon transition from intramuscular introduction to oral administration of Ketorol total daily doses of drug have to be considered: in day of transition – 30 mg, for patients are more senior than 65 years – 60 mg, for patients 65 years – 90 mg are younger.

Side effects

Ketorol tablets and injections can provoke such undesirable reactions at patients as:

• diarrhea, stomach ache, vomiting, lock, meteorism, stomatitis, nausea, heartburn;
• back pain, acute renal failure, frequent urination, nephrite (inflammation of kidneys), reduction or increase in volume of urine;
• bronchospasm, throat hypostasis, rhinitis;
• headache, drowsiness, dizziness, hyperactivity, depression, ring in ears, decrease in hearing, a sight illegibility.
• increase in arterial pressure, syncope, fluid lungs;
• leukopenia (increase in leukocytes in blood), an eosinophilia (increase in number of eosinophils), anemia (reduction of number of erythrocytes or hemoglobin);
• rectal, nasal, from postoperative wounds of bleeding;
• purpura, skin rash, a small tortoiseshell, a Lyell's disease (allergic dermatitis as reaction to medicines), Stephens-Johnson's syndrome (emergence of bubbles on sites of skin and on a mucous membrane of various bodies);
• itch, urticaria, discoloration of the person, skin rash, hypostases a century, the complicated breath, goose breathing, weight in a thorax;
• increase in body weight, hypostasis a foot, fingers, anklebones, shins, the person, language, the increased perspiration, fever;
• pain or burning in the place of a prick Ketorol.

Contraindications to use Ketorol

According to the instruction, Ketorol is not applied to treatment of a chronic pain syndrome. Ketorol's use is contraindicated at:

• bronchospasm (narrowing of bronchial tubes as a result of reduction of muscles);
• to "aspirinovy" asthma (the suffocation attacks connected with reception of salicylates);
• hypovolemia (reduction of volume of blood);
• Quincke's disease (limited deep hypostasis of mucous membranes or hypodermic cellulose and skin);
• dehydrations (dehydration);
• round ulcers (expression of a mucous membrane of a gullet as a result of impact of a gastric juice on one of its pieces);
• erosive cankers of a digestive tract in an aggravation phase;
• hypocoagulations (the lowered blood coagulation);
• hemorrhagic diathesis (disease of system of blood of which tendency to the raised bleeding is characteristic);
• hemorrhagic stroke (the hematencephalon caused by a rupture of vessels);
• liver or renal failure;
• concomitant use with other antiinflammatory nonsteroid drugs;
• disturbance of blood formation;
• high risk of development of bleeding;
• hypersensitivity to a ketorolak or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Ketorol whose use has to be stipulated with the attending physician is not appointed to pregnant women and the feeding women, and also to children and teenagers 16 years are younger.

With care the instruction recommends to apply Ketorol at cholecystitis (an inflammation of a gall bladder), arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, bronchial asthma, renal failures, sepsis (hit in blood of contagiums), active hepatitis, polyps (fabric outgrowths) of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx and nose, a system lupus erythematosus (a disease of connecting fabric).

Additional information

The instruction recommends to store Ketorol in the dark place where air temperature does not rise ^{higher than 250C}. A period of validity Ketorol of tablets and solution for injections – 3 years.
