Form of release and structure

Mefenaminovy acid is produced in the form of tablets (in blister strip packagings on 10 pieces, on 1 or 2 packagings in a cardboard pack).

Is a part of 1 tablet:

  • Active agent: Mefenaminovy acid – 0,5 g;
  • Auxiliary components: octadecanoic acid, potato starch, methyl cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearate magnesium.

Indications to use

  • Symptomatic therapy of a pain syndrome;
  • Flu and acute respiratory viral infections (along with other drugs);
  • Feverish states (as an antipyretic);
  • Inflammatory disturbances of the bone and joint device: rheumatism, pseudorheumatism, Bekhterev's disease;
  • Pain, inflammation and hypostasis developing in the posttraumatic and postoperative periods;
  • Blood losses at menorrhagias which are caused by ovulatory dysfunctional bleedings in the absence of pathologies of pelvic bodies;
  • Functional dysmenorrhea.

Contraindications

  • Functional disturbances of kidneys and liver;
  • Inflammatory diseases of digestive tract;
  • Peptic ulcer of a stomach and duodenum;
  • Blood diseases;
  • Age up to 5 years;
  • Pregnancy and period of a lactation (breastfeeding);
  • Hypersensitivity to drug components.

Route of administration and dosage

Mefenaminovy acid is accepted inside, after meal.

The single dose is defined by age:

  • Adults and children of 12 years: 0,25-0,5 g (the maximum daily dose – 3 g, at improvement reduce a dose to 1 g);
  • Children of 5-12 years: 0,25 g.

Frequency rate of administration of drug – 3-4 times a day.

The doctor establishes treatment duration individually (on average – 20-60 days). When performing symptomatic therapy of a pain syndrome usually drug is used up to 7 days.

Side effects

Most often during use of Mefenaminovy acid emergence of the disturbances from digestive tract which are shown as dyspepsia, gastrointestinal discomfort, pain in the area epigastriums, diarrhea, increase in level of liver enzymes is noted. Administration of drug can lead to development of stomach ulcer and gastrointestinal bleedings.

Also during therapy there can be following side effects:

  • Cardiovascular system: increase in arterial pressure, disturbance of a rhythm, peripheral hypostases; seldom – congestive heart failure;
  • Central nervous system: very seldom – irritability, a sleep disorder;
  • Urinogenital system: nonspecific inflammation of kidneys, functional disturbances of kidneys, dysuria, albuminuria, hamaturia;
  • Respiratory system: bronchospasm, диспноэ;
  • Hematologic effects: eosinophilia, agranulocytosis, Werlhof's disease or thrombocytopenia, hemolitic anemia;
  • Allergic reactions: urticaria, skin rash.

Special instructions

Mefenaminovy acid should not be accepted the patient with an allergy to aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, heavy heart failure, an ulcer, perforation of intestines, heavy cirrhosis, and also after carrying out operation on heart.

Drug should be taken with caution to elderly patients, and also at epilepsy, dehydration, an allergy, asthma, a diabetes mellitus, blood circulation disturbances, existence of risk of development of a stroke, stenocardia, disturbances of coagulability of blood, a porphyria, depression of function of a liver or kidneys. Reduction of a dose or change of the scheme of therapy can be required by this group of patients.

For decrease in irritation of a mucous membrane of a stomach drug is recommended to be accepted during food. Also if necessary decrease in the accepted dose is possible. At development of skin rashes or diarrheas administration of drug should be interrupted.

At long treatment it is necessary to control indicators of blood and function of kidneys and a liver.

During use of Mefenaminovy acid it is not recommended to manage motor transport and to perform the works requiring high attention and bystry psychomotor reactions.

Medicinal interaction

At simultaneous use of Mefenaminovy acid with some medicines there can be undesirable effects:

  • Opioid analgetics, Dicumarinum, B6,B1 vitamins derivative of a fenotiazin: strengthening of effect of Mefenaminovy acid;
  • Anticoagulants, antagonists of vitamin K: strengthening of their effect;
  • Methotrexate: strengthening of its negative effects;
  • Warfarin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: increase in risk of development of gastrointestinal disturbances;
  • Antacids: increase in bioavailability of Mefenaminovy acid, strengthening of its side effects.

Terms and storage conditions
