Melotriya
Melotriya is a perennial or annual plant from family pumpkin. 
According to different versions North America, Africa are considered as the melotriya homeland. In appearance the plant reminds a liana, flowers its bright yellow, and fruits are similar to the small cucumbers covered with the green thin skin reminding a water-melon peel. Other known names of a melotriya – the African cucumber, a mouse melon, the Mexican acid gherkin.
Useful properties of a melotriya
Fruits of a melotriya are rich with cellulose therefore their regular use gives the chance to prevent cardiovascular and cancer diseases, to remove bile, to reduce cholesterol level.
Besides, cellulose which is in melotriya fruits helps to watch the weight as it quickly causes sense of fulness, preventing, thereby, an overeating.
Caloric content of the African cucumber makes about 15 calories that proves once again advantage of a melotriya as product of dietary food.
By means of a melotriya it is possible to arrange fasting days: to taste fruits of an exotic plant are similar to cucumbers, respectively, they suit for preparation of traditional "summer" salads. For purgation and maintenance of weight it is possible to do one or two fasting days a week: to use only salads with a melotriya and tomatoes or paprika. As gas station it is allowed to use lemon juice or kefir.
Contraindications to a melotriya
It is undesirable to use a fresh melotriya that at whom acidity of juice of a stomach is increased, the peptic ulcer or gastritis is found.
Fresh it is recommended to eat a melotriya while its fruits young, and a thin skin at them not coarsened, and more mature cucumbers it is necessary to salt and pickle. In turn, it is undesirable to use them that who has diseases of a liver, cardiovascular system, kidneys, a GIT, and also atherosclerosis, a hypertension. It is also desirable for pregnant women to refrain from the use of salty or marinated fruits of the African cucumber.
