Remantadinum

Remantadinum – antiviral means.

Form of release and structure

• Capsules: firm gelatinous, size No. 0, white color; contents – powder of orange color with a shade from slightly pink to brownish, with white inclusions (on 10 pieces in blister strip packagings, in a pack cardboard 1 or 3 packagings);
• Tablets: a ploskotsilindrichesky form, white color, with a facet (on 10 pieces in blister strip packagings, in a pack cardboard 2 packagings).

Active agent: Rimantadinum a hydrochloride – 100 mg in 1 capsule, 50 mg in 1 tablet.

Additional components of capsules:

• Excipients: potato starch, stearic acid, lactoses monohydrate, dye sunset yellow (Eurolake Sunset Yellow HS (EllO));
• Structure of the capsule: gelatin, titanium dioxide (Е 171).

Excipients of tablets: potato starch, magnesium stearate, cellulose microcrystallic, lactoses monohydrate.

Indications to use

Remantadinum – means for early treatment of flu A.

In tablets drug can be used also for prevention.

Contraindications

• Children's age up to 7 years – for tablets, up to 14 years – for capsules;
• Thyrotoxicosis;
• Acute and chronic diseases of kidneys;
• Acute diseases of a liver;
• Glyukozo-galaktozny malabsorption, lactose intolerance, deficit of lactase;
• Period of pregnancy and lactation;
• Individual hypersensitivity to drug components.

With care:

• Epilepsy, in the anamnesis including;
• Arterial hypertension;
• Digestive tract diseases;
• Liver failure;
• Chronic renal failure;
• Atherosclerosis of vessels of a brain.

Route of administration and dosage

Remantadinum should be accepted inside after food: to swallow of tablets/capsules entirely and to wash down with enough water.

The recommended doses:

• Adults and teenagers are more senior than 14 years: in the 1st day – on 100 mg (to 1 capsule or 2 tablets) 3 times a day, the 2-3rd days – on 100 mg 2 times a day, the 4-5th days – on 100 mg of 1 times a day. In the first day of a disease the single dose of Remantadinum in a dose of 300 mg (3 capsules or 6 tablets) is allowed;
• Children of 11-14 years: on 50 mg (1 tablet) 3 times a day;
• Children of 7-10 years: on 50 mg 2 times a day.

Duration of treatment makes 5 days. It is recommended to begin administration of drug at once after emergence of the first symptoms of flu. Remantadinum is most effective if to begin treatment within the first 24-48 hours.

To elderly people, patients with a liver failure and a chronic renal failure appoint 100 mg of 1 times a day.

For prevention of flu by the adult and to children 7 years are more senior appoint on 1 tablet of 1 times a day within 10-15 days.

Side effects

Remantadinum is transferred generally well. The following side effects are in rare instances noted:

• From the central nervous system: neurologic reactions, sleeplessness, headache, disturbance of concentration of attention, dizziness, uneasiness, drowsiness, fatigue, hypererethism;
• From digestive tract: appetite loss, anorexia, a xerostomia, a meteorism, pains in epigastriums, nausea, vomiting;
• Allergic reactions: itch, rash, urticaria;
• Others: hyperbilirubinemia.

Special instructions

During treatment the probability of an exacerbation of the accompanying chronic diseases is Remantadinum. At elderly people with arterial hypertension the risk of development of a hemorrhagic stroke, at patients with epilepsy in the anamnesis or at the same time receiving anticonvulsant therapy – risk of development of an epileptic seizure increases. In the latter case the daily dose of Rimantadinum should not exceed 100 mg.

Preventive administration of drug is effective at high risk of developing of a disease during a flu epidemic, contacts with the diseased or spread of an infection in the closed collectives.

At the flu caused by a virus B, Rimantadinum has anti-toxic effect.

Emergence of viruses, resistant to drug, is possible.

Due to the probability of development of side effects from the central nervous system during treatment it is recommended to be careful at control of vehicles and performance of potentially dangerous types of the works requiring special attention, high speed of mental and/or physical reactions.

Medicinal interaction

Cimetidinum reduces clearance of Rimantadinum by 18%, paracetamol reduces by 11% its maximum concentration in a blood plasma.

Atsidifiruyushchiye means urine (for example, ascorbic acid and ammonium chloride) accelerate removal of Rimantadinum kidneys, than reduce its efficiency.

Alkaliziruyushchiye means urine (for example, Natrii hydrocarbonas and acetazoleamide), on the contrary, reduce removal of Rimantadinum kidneys, than strengthen its effect.

The knitting, adsorbing and enveloping means reduce absorption of Rimantadinum.

Remantadinum reduces efficiency of at the same time used antiepileptic drugs.

Terms and storage conditions

To store in protected from light and moisture, the place, unavailable to children, at a temperature up to 25 ºС.

Period of validity of capsules – 2 years, tablets – 5 years.
