Apophysis [apophysis – PNA (The anatomic nomenclature Parisian), BNA (The anatomic nomenclature Basel); Greek apophysis – a shoot] – a bone ledge near an epiphysis which has an independent kernel of ossification. The apophysis serves as the place of an attachment or the beginning of muscles.
