Viferon

Viferon – drug of immunomodulatory, anti-proliferative and antiviral action.

Form of release and structure

Viferon release in shape:

• Ointment for topical and external use – homogeneous, viscous, yellow-white or yellow color, with a specific smell of lanolin (6 g or 12 g in aluminum tubas, 12 g in banks polystyrene, on 1 tuba or bank in a cardboard pack);
• Gel for topical and external use – gel, opaque, homogeneous white mass with a grayish shade (12 g in aluminum tubas or in banks polystyrene, on 1 tuba or bank in a cardboard pack);
• Suppositories for rectal use – a bullet form, a homogeneous consistence, color, white with a yellowish shade, with a diameter up to 10 mm (on 10 pieces in blister strip packagings, on 1 or 2 packagings in a cardboard pack).

Is a part of 1 g of ointment:

• Active agent: human recombinant interferon alpha 2b – 40000 International Units (IU);
• Auxiliary components: anhydrous lanolin – 0,34 g; tocopherol acetate – 0,02 g; peach oil – 0,12 g; medical vaseline – 0,45 g; the purified water – to 1 g.

Is a part of 1 g of gel:

• Active agent: human recombinant interferon alpha 2b – 36000 ME;
• Auxiliary components: 95% ethanol – 0,055 g; alpha tocopherol acetate – 0,055 g; methionine – 0,0012 g; the benzoic acid – 0,00128 mg; monohydrate of citric acid – 0,001 g; sodium chloride – 0,004 g; decahydrate of sodium tetraborate – 0,0018 mg; the distilled glycerin (глицерол) – 0,02 g; 10% solution of a human seralbumin – 0,02 g; a karmelloza of sodium – 0,02 g; the purified water – to 1 g.

Is a part of 1 suppository:

• Active agent: human recombinant interferon alpha 2b – 150000, 500000, 1000000 or 3000000 ME;
• Auxiliary components: ascorbic acid – 0,0054/0,0081/0,0081/0,0081 g according to; alpha tocopherol acetate – on 0,055 g; a dihydrate of an edetat of dinatrium – on 0,0001 g; a sodium ascorbate – 0,0108/0,0162/0,0162/0,0162 g according to; polysorbate 80 – on 0,0001 g;
• Basis: confectionery fat and cocoa butter – to 1 g.

Indications to use

Viferon in the form of ointment appoint for treatment of the following diseases:

• The Acute Respiratory Viral Infections (ARVI) and flu at children are more senior than 1 year;
• Virus (including herpetic) damages of mucous membranes and skin of various localization.

Drug in the form of gel is shown to use:

• SARS, including flu, long and frequent SARS, including proceeding with complications bacterial infections (prevention, along with other drugs);
• The recurrent stenosing laryngotracheobronchitis (prevention, along with other drugs);
• Herpetic cervicitis (along with other drugs);
• Herpes infection mucous and skin (acute and aggravations of chronic recuring), including an urogenital form of a herpes infection (along with other drugs).

Viferon in the form of suppositories apply along with other drugs at treatment of diseases:

• SARS, including flu, including proceeding with complications bacterial infections, pneumonia (Chlamidia, virus, bacterial) at adults and children;
• Chronic viral hepatitis of B, C, D at adults and children, including in combination with use of hemosorption and plasma exchange at a chronic viral hepatitis of the expressed activity which is complicated by cirrhosis;
• Infectious and inflammatory diseases at newborns (including premature) children: sepsis, meningitis (virus, bacterial), pre-natal infection (enteroviral infection, clamidiosis, TsMV-infection, herpes, mycoplasmosis, candidiasis, including visceral);
• Recurrent or primary herpes infection of mucous membranes and skin, the localized form, medium-weight and easy current, including an urogenital form at adults;
• Infectious and inflammatory diseases of an urogenital path (bacterial vaginosis, ureaplasmosis, clamidiosis, human papillomavirus infection, TsMV-infection, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, the mycoplasmosis recuring vulval candidiasis) at adults.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to drug components.

Route of administration and dosage

Ointment Viferon is applied locally and outwardly.

Herpes infection: ointment should be applied 3-4 times a day with a thin layer on the centers of defeat and to rub carefully. Therapy duration – from 5 to 7 days. Treatment is recommended to be begun at emergence of the first symptoms of a disease (reddening, burning, an itch). At recurrent herpes it is desirable to begin treatment in a prodromal stage or at emergence of the first signs of a recurrence.

Flu and other SARS: ointment a thin layer is applied on a mucous membrane of the nasal courses by 3-4 times a day during the entire period of a disease. Frequency rate of use to children of 1-2 years – 3 times a day, 2-12 years – 4 times a day.

Gel Viferon is applied locally and outwardly.

Complex therapy of a SARS: gel (a strip up to 5 mm long) should be applied on a nose cover mucosal surface which needs to be dried previously, and/or on a surface of palatine tonsils, using for this purpose the pallet or a wadding stick, 3-5 times a day. Duration of a medical course – 5 days, if necessary it is possible to continue therapy. For prevention of a SARS during rise in incidence 2 times a day put a gel strip to 5 mm. Duration of use of Viferon – 14-28 days.

Complex therapy of the recurrent stenosing laryngotracheobronchitis: it is necessary to apply a strip of gel up to 5 mm long on a surface of palatine tonsils. In the acute period of a disease (the first 5-7 days) – 5 times a day, then within 21 days – 3 times a day. To prevention of a disease gel is applied within 21-28 days by 2 times a day, 2 times a year are recommended to repeat courses.

Complex therapy of an acute and persistent recurrent herpes infection (at emergence of the first symptoms of a disease): the gel strip to 5 mm needs to be applied by means of a wadded tampon / wadding stick or the pallet on the struck surface previously dried 3-5 times a day for 5-6 days. Duration of a course can be increased before disappearance of clinical manifestations.

Complex therapy of a herpetic cervicitis: 1 ml of gel should apply with a cotton plug 2 times a day on the surface of a neck of uterus which needs previously to be cleared of slime. Drug use duration – 7-14 days.

Gel on a surface of palatine tonsils needs to be applied half an hour later after acceptance of food, on a mucous membrane of a nasal cavity – after cleaning of nasal passes. When drawing Viferon's on affected areas of mucous membranes and skin within 30-40 minutes the pellicle on which further apply the following dose is formed. At desire the film can be washed away water or exfoliate.

Suppositories Viferon apply rektalno.

Complex therapy of acute respiratory viral infections:

• Adults and children of 7 years – daily within 5 days (according to indications it is possible longer). 2 times a day with a break of 12 hours on 1 suppository 500000 ME;
• Children up to 7 years, including newborn and premature with gestational age of 34 weeks – daily on 1 suppository 150000 ME 2 of time a day with an interval of 12 hours within 5 days (according to indications treatment can be continued with a break of 5 days);
• Premature newborn children with gestational age to 34 weeks – daily on 1 suppository 150000 ME, 3 of time a day with an interval of 8 hours within 5 days (according to indications treatment can be continued with a break of 5 days).

Complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases (sepsis, meningitis, pre-natal infections, including the TsMV-infection, clamidiosis, herpes, candidiasis, an enteroviral infection) newborn children, including premature, with gestational age: 34 weeks – daily on 1 suppository 150000 ME on 2 times a day with an interval of 12 hours, to 34 weeks – daily on 1 suppository 150000 ME on 3 times a day with an interval of 8 hours are more senior. A medical course – 5 days.

Depending on indications treatment is recommended to be carried out by courses with a break of 5 days:

• Sepsis – 2-3 courses;
• TsMV-infection – 2-3 courses;
• Herpes infection – 2 courses;
• Meningitis – 1-2 courses;
• Mycoplasmosis, candidiasis, including visceral – 2-3 courses;
• Enteroviral infection – 1-2 courses.

In the presence of clinical indications treatment can be continued.

Complex therapy of a chronic viral hepatitis of B, C, D: 10 days Viferon apply daily 2 times a day in 12 hours, further 6-12 months – 3 times a week every other day. Duration of therapy is defined by laboratory indicators and clinical performance. The daily dose makes:

• Adults – 2 suppositories on 3000000 ME;
• Children of 7 years – 5000000 ME on 1 sq.m of surface area of a body;
• Children of 1-7 years – 3000000 ME on 1 sq.m of surface area of a body;
• Children of 6-12 months – 500000 ME;
• Children up to 6 months – 300000-500000 ME.

Chronic viral hepatitis of the expressed activity and cirrhosis: before carrying out hemosorption and/or plasma exchange daily use of Viferon on 150000 ME is recommended to children up to 7 years, to children 7 years – on 500000 ME 2 time a day with a break of 12 hours within 14 days are more senior.

Complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of an urogenital path (mycoplasmosis, ureaplasmosis, human papillomavirus infection, clamidiosis, TsMV-infection, bacterial vaginosis, the trichomoniasis recuring vulval candidiasis, a bacterial vaginosis): the adult – 5-10 days daily on 1 suppository of Viferon 500000 ME. Frequency rate of use – 2 times a day (each 12 hours). In the presence of clinical indications treatment can be continued. According to the same scheme in the first 10 days of treatment Viferon appoint to pregnant women after the 14th week of a gestation. In the next 10 days drug is appointed on 1 suppository by 2 times a day with a break of 12 hours every 4th day. Further – each 28 days before delivery on 1 suppository 150000 ME 2 of time a day with the same interval daily within 5 days. If necessary before delivery (from 38th week of a gestation) within 10 days appoint on 1 suppository 500000 ME 2 of time a day.

Recurrent or primary herpes infection of skin and mucous membranes, the localized form (medium-weight and easy current): the recommended single dose for adults within 10 days – 1000000 ME, pregnant women from the 2nd trimester – 500000 ME. Drug is used daily by 2 times a day (each 12 hours). In the presence of clinical indications therapy can be continued. Pregnant women Viferon can apply further according to the scheme of treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of an urogenital path.

Side effects

Viferon in the form of ointment is in most cases had well. Side effects when drawing on a mucous membrane of a nose usually have passing and weak character and disappear independently after drug withdrawal.

In exclusively exceptional cases at use of gel for patients with hypersensitivity local allergic reactions can develop. At their emergence treatment is stopped.

At use of suppositories Viferon development of allergic reactions (an itch, skin rashes) is in some cases possible. These phenomena have reversible character and disappear 72 hours later after the therapy termination.

Special instructions

It is possible to store the opened tuba with ointment in the refrigerator 1 month, with gel – 2 months.

Viferon in the form of suppositories pregnant women can apply, since 14th week of pregnancy.

Medicinal interaction

Viferon is well combined with all medicines applied at therapy of viral and other diseases (himiopreparata, antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids).

Terms and storage conditions

To store in protected from light, the place, dry, unavailable to children, at a temperature of 2-8 °C.

Drug period of validity in the form of gel and ointment – 1 year, suppositories – 2 years.
