Form of release and composition of the drug Phencarolum

Phencarolum is issued in the following dosage forms:

• in the form of round biconvex tablets of 10 mg, 25 mg;

One tablet of a medicine contains 10 (25) mg of a hifenadin of a hydrochloride. Other components: potato starch, sucrose, calcium stearate.

• in the form of colourless coarse-grained powder.

One bag of powder contains 10 mg of a hifenadin of a hydrochloride. Additional components: Mannitolum, aspartame, citric acid, fragrance orange dyurary, fragrance peach dyurary.

Pharmacological action

Reviews of Phencarolum confirm that this drug renders the anti-exudative, antipruritic, desensibilizing and antiallergic action. Hifenadin, blocking H1-histamine receptors, reduces influence of a histamine on permeability of vessels. Besides, хифенадин considerably reduces hypotensive action of a histamine and weakens its spazmogenny effect concerning smooth muscles of intestines and bronchial tubes.

Drug has a number of advantages before other antihistaminic medicines: this medicine does not possess adrenolytic and cholinolytic action. For this reason the patients who are not transferring anticholinergic antihistaminic medicines can use Phencarolum in treatment. This drug practically does not cause slackness and drowsiness (as Dimedrol or isopromethazine), it is not enough липофилен, малотоксичен and practically does not get through a blood-brain barrier. The medicine not only blocks N1-receptors, but also reduces histamine level, increasing activity of diaminoxidase - the enzyme splitting about 30% of an endogenous histamine.

Half an hour later after reception of 45% of drug from digestive tract gets into a blood plasma and begins the action in body tissues. In an hour after reception the maximum concentration of a medicine in a blood plasma is reached. Process of disintegration of Phencarolum happens in a liver. Metabolites of drug are removed with bile, urine, and also through lungs and intestines for 48 hours.

Indications to use

According to the instruction Phencarolum and analogs of Phencarolum are applied at the following allergic diseases:

• at a dermatosis (eczema, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, a skin itch);
• at an acute and chronic small tortoiseshell;
• at pollinoses;
• at a Quincke's disease of Quincke;
• at various displays of medicinal and food allergy;
• at hay fever;
• at allergic rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis.

Contraindications to use

There are following contraindications to use of Phencarolum:

• children's age up to three years;
• lactation period;
• pregnancy;
• hypersensitivity to medicine components;
• deficit of isomaltase/invertase, glyukozo/galaktozny malabsorption, intolerance of fructose since the medicine contains sucrose.

With care it is recommended to use drug at gastrointestinal diseases, cardiovascular system, kidneys, a liver.

Route of administration according to the instruction

According to indications Phencarolum and analogs of Phencarolum accept orally after meal.

The adult according to indications Phencarolum is recommended to accept from 25 to 50 mg three-four times a day. The maximum dose should not exceed per day 200 mg. Duration of treatment is from ten to twenty days. If necessary the course of treatment should be repeated.

To children aged from two up to three years about 5 mg of medicine two-three times a day are recommended to appoint; from three to seven years - po10 drug mg twice a day. To children aged from seven up to 12 years usually appoint 10-15 mg of a medicine two-three times a day, to children is more senior than twelve years – on 25 mg of drug two-three times a day. Treatment duration – 10-15 days.

Pediatricians this drug is most often appointed in the form of powder. The bag of Phencarolum should be diluted in half of glass of warm drinking water and to allow to drink to the child after meal.

According to the instruction Phencarolum to children aged from two up to three years is recommended to appoint on 10 mg (1 bag of powder) once a day; from three to seven years - po10 drug mg twice a day. To children aged from seven up to 12 years usually appoint 10 mg of a medicine two-three times a day, to children is more senior than twelve years – on 20 mg (2 bags) two-three times a day.

Side effects

Drug is in most cases transferred well. In rare instances, judging by reviews of Phencarolum, drug can make drowsiness, sick, a headache, vomiting, an abdominal pain. However most often collateral symptoms disappear at cancellation of medicine or at change of a dose.

Medicinal interaction

Drug accelerates absorption of medicines with poorly expressed absorbing properties (for example, coumarins). This medicine does not strengthen the oppressing effect of hypnotic drugs and alcohol on TsNS.
