Oftan Deksametazon

Oftan Deksametazon – local drug for use in ophthalmology with antiallergic, antiinflammatory action.

Form of release and structure

Dosage form of release Oftan Deksametazona – drops eye: transparent, colourless (in polyethylene bottles droppers on 5 ml, on 1 bottle dropper in a cardboard pack).

Is a part of 1 ml of solution:

• Active agent: dexamethasone – 1 mg (in the form of phosphate sodium dexamethasone – 1,32 mg);
• Auxiliary components: chloride a benzalkoniya, boric acid, sodium tetraborate, эдетат dinatrium, water for injections.

Indications to use

Oftan Deksametazon appoint for treatment of inflammatory processes in an acute and chronic current, and also allergic diseases of eyes:

• Episcleritis, sclerite;
• Conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis in not purulent forms;
• Superficial damages of a cornea of various genesis (immune, physical, chemical) after full epithelization of a cornea;
• The iridocyclitis, iritis and other uveites having various etiology;
• Inflammation, hypostasis (including during the period after carrying out operation);
• Inflammation of a back segment of an eye (chorioretinitis, choroiditis);
• Keratoconjunctivitis or conjunctivitis of an allergic etiology;
• Sympathetic ophthalmia.

Also Oftan Deksametazon is shown with the medical and preventive purpose at the inflammatory phenomena during the period after injuries and operative measures.

Contraindications

• The increased intraocular pressure;
• Keratitis which is associated with chicken pox, a herpes simplex and other viral diseases of a conjunctiva and cornea;
• Glaucoma;
• Mikobakterialny infections of eyes;
• Tuberculosis of eyes;
• Fungal and acute purulent diseases of eyes;
• Damage of an epithelium of a cornea (including a state after removal of a foreign body from a cornea);
• Epiteliopatiya of a cornea;
• Age up to 18 years (due to the lack of necessary data on efficiency and safety of use Oftan of dexamethasone at this age group of patients);
• Hypersensitivity to drug components.

During pregnancy and a lactation Oftan Deksametazon appoint a course not longer than 7-10 days only after assessment by the doctor of a ratio of estimated advantage with possible risk for health of the woman and the child.

Route of administration and dosage

Drops should be dug in in a conjunctival sac.

Single dose – 1-2 drops. At acute states drug is used by each 1-2 hours, after improvement frequency rate of use is reduced to 3-5 times a day.

Course duration – not longer 2-3 weeks (is defined by efficiency of the carried-out treatment, expressiveness of clinical symptoms and probability of development of side effects).

Side effects

During use Oftan Deksametazona disturbances from an organ of sight can be observed: short burning sensation after an instillation, allergic reactions. As an auxiliary component preservative – chloride a benzalkoniya which can lead to development of irritation of eyes is a part of drug.

At a long course of therapy development of a steroid cataract and secondary glaucoma, and also opacification, an ulceration, perforation and/or thinning of a cornea can be observed; in rare instances – spread of herpetic or bacterial infections.

Special instructions

Chloride a benzalkoniya (one of auxiliary components Oftan Deksametazona) can be absorbed by soft contact lenses, leading to change of their color, and it is adverse to influence eye tissues. In this regard before the procedure of a lens it is necessary to remove, establish them it is possible in 15 minutes after instillation.

When carrying out a course lasting longer 14 days it is regularly necessary to carry out control of intraocular pressure and a condition of a cornea.

Use Oftan Deksametazona can mask the current fungal or bacterial infections. At confirmation of existence of an infection use of drug needs to be combined with performing the corresponding antimicrobic therapy.

After an instillation, because of probability of development of dacryagogue, it is not recommended to manage vehicles.

Medicinal interaction

At the combined use Oftan Deksametazona with some drugs there can be following effects:

• Yodoksuridin (at long therapy): strengthening of destructive processes in a cornea epithelium;
• Blockers of calcium channels, quinidine, erythromycin: decrease in their efficiency.

Terms and storage conditions

To store in the place, unavailable to children, at a temperature of 2-8 °C.

Period of validity – 2 years, after packaging opening – 30 days.
