Ovestin

Ovestin – the estrogenosoderzhashchy drug which is applied to treatment of gynecologic diseases.

Pharmacological action

Ovestin contains estriol – women's hormone of short action. Ovestin's use promotes healing of an epithelium mucous vaginas, to recovery of natural microflora and рН balance of a vagina, helps to fill a lack of estrogen, to increase the resilience of an epithelium of urinogenital ways to infections.

Indications to Ovestin's use

Drug is effective at atrophic changes mucous vaginas, caused by a lack of estrogen and followed by pains at sexual intercourse, an itch, dryness and other unpleasant feelings in a vagina.

Treatment by Ovestin is appointed at complaints of the patient to urodynias, increase of urinations, an urine incontience.

Also Ovestin and Ovestin's analogs appoint for prevention of inflammatory diseases of urinogenital ways, treatment of the infertility connected with a cervical factor.

Route of administration

Judging by comments on Ovestin, his dosage form does not influence efficiency of treatment.

Take a pill, enter candles or vaginal cream once a day.

At atrophic changes mucous vaginas are appointed to accept 4-8 mg of drug a day for a month. In a month the patient is transferred to the supporting treatment – appoint to accept 1-2 mg of drug.

If for treatment vaginal candles Ovestin are used, appoint to enter daily on one candle within a month. After that the dosage is reduced to 2 candles a week.

When using cream Ovestin daily enter one its dose into a vagina. (One dose of cream two times a week) pass to a maintenance therapy after symptoms of a disease become less expressed.

At the infertility provoked by a cervical factor (low interest of survival of spermatozoa in a neck of uterus), the woman appoint to accept 1-2 mg of Ovestin a day with 6th on the 15th days of a menstrual cycle. In Ovestin's instruction it is specified that in certain cases the dosage is raised to 8 mg.

To women during a climax for preparation for surgical intervention through a vagina, in two weeks prior to operation appoint vaginal candles Ovestin. It is necessary to enter daily on one candle. After operation two-week treatment by Ovestin is recommended – enter on one candle two times a week.

At a preparation for surgery tablets can be appointed: 4-8 mg within 2 weeks to surgical intervention, and 1-2 mg within 2 weeks after carrying out operation.

Ovestin of cream is also recommended to begin use in two weeks prior to operation: enter on one dose a day, and after operation – two doses a week.

For treatment of climacteric frustration appoint to take a pill: 4-8 mg daily. Gradually the dosage is reduced.

To women who, having handed over a smear for a cytologic research, received not clear result Ovestin according to the instruction appoint for carrying out additional inspection: one week prior to delivery of the following smear it is necessary to put every other day in a vagina on the 1st candle or the 1st dose of cream.
It is desirable to carry out treatment by Ovestin without breaks. If the next reception was missed, but from the last reception there passed less than 36 hours, it is possible to take the next pill or to enter candle/cream. If there passed more than 36 hours, the next dose is not accepted, but continue treatment.

Side effects of Ovestin

Ovestin's use can become the reason of emergence of irritation and an itch on mucous vaginas.

In certain cases because of reception of high doses of Ovestin and analogs of drug morbidity, hypersensitivity and tension of a breast can be noted.

Besides, there are comments on Ovestin indicating that drug can cause plentiful or breakthrough bleedings, a malignant/high-quality neoplasia (breast cancer or an endometria), an embolism of pulmonary vessels, a vein thrombosis standing, a heart attack, a stroke, cholelithiasis, a hemorrhagic purpura, a knotty or mnogoformny erythema, a hloazma, baldness, increase in a libido.

Contraindications

Treatment by Ovestin is contraindicated to the women who transferred earlier breast cancer or at suspicion to it in the presence of estrogenozavisimy tumors, a hyperplasia of an endometria, bleedings from a vagina of not clear origin, a vein thrombosis.

In Ovestin's instruction it is specified also that he is not appointed at a heart attack, stenocardia, a porphyria, liver diseases in an acute stage, at hypersensitivity.

With care appoint medicine at endometriosis, uterus fibroma, supertension, benign tumors of a liver, cholelithiasis, a diabetes mellitus, jaundice, a liver failure, migraine, a system lupus erythematosus, asthma, an otosclerosis, pancreatitis, epilepsy.

There are comments on Ovestin confirming that estriol strengthens the effect of drugs, the lipids reducing level, and reduces efficiency of anticoagulants, hypoglycemic, hypotensive, diuretics, and also antidepressants, male sex hormones.

Opioid analgetics, ethanol, anxiolytics badly affect Ovestin's action (drugs with sedative action).

Drugs of a thyroid gland and folic acid strengthen effect of the medicine.
