Obstetrics (fr. accoucher – to deliver) – one of the fields of clinical medicine studying pathological and physiological processes which are connected with conception, pregnancy, childbirth and a puerperal period. Besides, the obstetrics develops methods of obstetric aid, treatment and prevention of complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and also diseases of a fruit and the newborn. Obstetrics operational – one of sections of obstetrics on studying and development of indications, contraindications and technology of carrying out obstetric operations at pregnancy and in labor.
