Angiotensin

Angiotensin (Greek angeion (prefix) – the vessel relating to vessels vascular + lat. tensio – tension; synonyms: Hypertensinum, angiotensin) – biologically active polypeptide which is formed of angiotensinogen. Because of narrowing of blood vessels angiotensin increases arterial pressure.

Allocate:

  • Angiotensin I – an inactive form; represents decapeptide which under the influence of a renin is formed of angiotensinogen; is a predecessor of angiotensin II;
  • Angiotensin II – an active form; represents octapeptide which under the influence of peptidase is formed of angiotensin I.
