Marjoram grass – the phytodrug applied as diuretic and an expectorant.

Stimulates secretory and motor functions of digestive tract and bronchial tubes.

Pharmacological action

Marjoram ordinary (an oregano, dushniyets, a materinka, a ladanka, Zenovka, a matserdushka) – a long-term grass from the sort Marjoram of Family of Yasnotkovye.

Has sedative, expectorant and diuretic effect, strengthening an intestines peristaltics. Has antimicrobic properties, increases appetite and secretion of a gastric juice.

The grass of the Marjoram is most widespread in Europe and the Mediterranean. Grows preferential on open sites – edges, glades, on slopes of hills and on dry open places.

In height a marjoram Grass a little more half a meter, a rhizome – branchy, a stalk – myagkoopushenny and branchy in an upper part. Leaves from 1 to 4 cm, ovoid, pointed up. Blossoms in numerous small purple colors, since June. Seeds ripen by August. A smell at a marjoram Grass the gentle and pleasant, bearing a faint resemblance marjoram smell, taste – bitterish and spicy, slightly tart, knitting. In some countries the Grass of a marjoram is cultivated and most often applied in cookery as the aromatic plant better known as Oregano. It is used for preparation vegetable and meat dishes, a pickles, by pastries, and also in compositions of various teas in kitchens of the different people.

Essential oil of the Grass of a marjoram is applied in cookery (at production of fruit liqueurs, tinctures, beer and kvass), in perfumery (by production of toothpastes, cologne, soap), in traditional and traditional medicine.

Indications to use

The grass of a marjoram is applied inside and outwardly. Inside apply in the form of infusions at:

  • Respiratory diseases – acute and chronic bronchitis, and also at acute respiratory viral infections as an expectorant;
  • Secretory insufficiency of digestive tract;
  • Intestines atonies, and also for improvement of digestion and appetite;
  • Chronic gastritis;
  • Coloenterites which are followed by locks or a meteorism;
  • Diseases of a liver and gall bladder.

Outwardly the Grass of a marjoram is applied at a pyoderma and diathesis (atopic dermatitis) as a part of complex therapy.

Medicinal properties of the Grass of a marjoram – expectorant, sudorific, calming, use at treatment of catarrhal diseases; calming – at sleeplessness, neurosises, hysteria, a headache; anesthetic, haemo static, sedative – at stomatitises, periodontosis, ulites.

Thanks to the properties the Grass of a marjoram can be used as the stimulating and fortifying means. In traditional medicine it is applied at treatment of furuncles, abscesses, eczemas, various rashes, a pruritic dermatosis, to healing of wounds and as means for regulation of periods.

Contraindications

Use of the Grass of a marjoram is contraindicated at pregnancy (because of exciting impact on smooth muscles of a uterus), during breastfeeding and aged up to 18 years. Also it is not used at:

  • The increased gastric secretion;
  • Diseases of cardiovascular system;
  • Peptic ulcer of a duodenum and stomach.

Contraindication of the Grass of a marjoram is hypersensitivity to drug, in this case use of the Grass of a marjoram is inadmissible, and at purpose of analogs carry out allergoproba.

Route of administration

For preparation of infusions 2 tablespoons of the crushed marjoram Grass (about 10 g) fill in 200 ml of hot boiled water and heat within 15 minutes on the water bath. After cooling within an hour at the room temperature infusion is filtered, and bring the received volume to 200 ml. Accept depending on indications on 1/4-1/2 glasses in 15-20 minutes prior to food 2 times a day.

Outwardly infusion, previously having shaken up, apply to lotions and bathtubs several times a day.

At use of the Grass of a marjoram insignificant allergic reactions are possible.

Storage conditions

The grass of a marjoram can be bought without recipe of the doctor. A period of storage – 2 years.
