The grapefruit diet is very effective for weight reduction, however has the low caloric content of a daily diet and a set of contraindications.

There are several options of a grapefruit diet, but all of them assume the obligatory use of a half of grapefruit before each main meal. The most popular is the diet calculated on 7 days at which the daily diet has to have caloric content not higher than 800 kcal.

Advantages

The grapefruit diet is suitable for the people wishing to get rid of excess weight. Contrary to popular belief, grapefruits have no fat-burning property, but, thanks to the vegetable flavonoid which is contained in them – to a naringenin, are capable to reduce appetite, to normalize the level of cholesterol and to improve metabolism of glucose in an organism. Grapefruits contain a large amount of vitamin C, and also B1, B2, B9, PP vitamins.

Shortcomings and contraindications

Before a diet surely consult with the attending physician.

The diet has excessively low caloric content of a daily diet, to observe it quite difficult. Side effects of observance of a grapefruit diet are weakness, a headache, bystry fatigue, irritability, a sleep disorder, constant feeling of hunger.

In case of strong feeling of hunger it is allowed to drink a glass of the fat-free kefir.

The grapefruit diet is contraindicated:

  • At digestive tract diseases — gastritis, a peptic ulcer of a stomach or duodenum;
  • In the presence of allergic reactions to the products used in the menu of a diet;
  • To women in the period of a menopause (because of possible communication between the daily use of grapefruits and development of a breast cancer in women in the period of the menopause revealed by the latest researches).

It is also necessary to note that at reception of many medicines consumption of grapefruit is forbidden.

What products are resolved?

The following products enter a diet of a grapefruit diet:

  • Fast meat, chicken meat, low-fat fish, canned food from fish in own juice, eggs;
  • The fat-free yogurt, kefir, low-fat cheese;
  • Black bread, croutons;
  • Porridge, muesli;
  • Vegetables with the low content of starch, greens;
  • Grapefruits, oranges, apples;
  • Raisin, nuts (except a peanut).

From drinks tea and black coffee is resolved. Once a day it is possible to add to tea 1 of h l. honey.

What products are prohibited?

All products, except described above, including sugar are prohibited. Also it is necessary to refuse completely salt or to minimize its use.

Menu

The approximate menu of a grapefruit diet for 7 days:

First day

Breakfast: half of grapefruit or svezheotzhaty grapefruit juice, low-fat ham (50 g), tea or black coffee.


Lunch: a half of grapefruit, not starchy vegetables and greens salad filled with lemon juice, tea or black coffee.


Dinner: a half of grapefruit, meat, the boiled or fried on a lattice (150 g), green salad filled with lemon juice (200 g), tea.

Second day

Breakfast: half of grapefruit or svezheotzhaty grapefruit juice, boiled eggs (2 pieces), tea or black coffee.


Lunch: half of grapefruit, low-fat cheese (50 g).


Dinner: a half of grapefruit, fish, stewed or prepared on a grill (200 g), the green vegetables salad filled with olive oil and lemon juice, a piece of black bread.

Third day

Breakfast: a half of grapefruit, muesli with raisin or porridge (2 tablespoons) with addition of 4 tablespoons of the fat-free yogurt, 2-3 nutlets.


Lunch: half of grapefruit, portion of transparent broth or vegetable two croutons soup.


Dinner: a half of grapefruit, boiled chicken (200 g), the baked tomatoes (2 pieces), tea.

Fourth day

Breakfast: a half of grapefruit, boiled egg (1 piece), tomato juice (200 ml), tea with a lemon segment.


Lunch: a half of grapefruit, the carrots, cucumber, broccoli, paprika salad, a celery and lettuce leaves filled with olive oil and juice of a lemon, a piece of black bread.


Dinner: a half of grapefruit, the stewed or boiled vegetables (except corn and potatoes) about 400 g, tea are powerful.

Fifth day

Breakfast: apple, orange and grapefruit salad, tea or black coffee.


Lunch: half of grapefruit, big baked potato (1 piece), cabbage salad (200 g).


Dinner: a half of grapefruit, a beef stake (200 g) or fish (250 g), or chicken (250 g), the baked tomato (1 piece) or tomato juice (200 ml).

Sixth day

The menu of any pleasant day.

Seventh day

The menu of any pleasant day.

In case of strong feeling of hunger it is allowed to drink a glass of the fat-free kefir.

Useful tips

Council 1: If there is a wish to improve result, it is possible to conduct one more week course after end of a diet. Thus, the diet for 14 days will turn out.

Council 2: It is important to leave a diet correctly. After its termination it is necessary to increase diet caloric content every day gradually. If at once to return to the usual menu, the lost kilograms quickly to return.
