Description:
"Floating opacities" represent deposits or condensate in a vitreous of small parts. Such opacifications which as if float before eyes can be as in one eye, and at once in both.
Symptoms of the Opacity of the vitreous body:
People describe floating opacities as spots, curved strips and figures in the form of a letter C or O. Can seem to some that they see only one opacification, and the whole one hundred can seem to others. These floating lines can be both thick, and thin, and sometimes and branchy. In most cases patients describe them as brown or black. Density of floating particles can be different in each case. In some situations these opacifications are noticeable more accurately, and in some, for example, when the patient looks at the light sky, they can become transparent.
As well as fingerprints, floating opacities happen at each person "", that is not to find identical "spots". At the same time if these opacifications occur at the patient in both eyes, then in each eye they can be different. Besides, over time these opacifications can change.
Floating opacities of a vitreous are always more dark than a background and they cannot be seen in the dark or at the closed eyes.
Reasons of the Opacity of the vitreous body:
Any state at which transparency of moisture of a vitreous is broken can cause emergence of floating opacities in a vitreous. With age in a vitreous there are natural changes. At the same time in it small pockets in which "jelly" of a vitreous turns into liquid are formed as if. It is a so-called syneresis (fall) of a vitreous. Sheaves between each such liquid pocket and jelly of a vitreous it can be perceived as a floating opacity. Besides, with age collagenic fibers which contain in a vitreous become more dense and thick that too leads to emergence of floating opacities. At any person 50 years in substance of a vitreous are more senior changes are observed, but their degree can be different.
In process of aging of the person, also the structure of a vitreous grows old that is shown in its wrinkling in space which it occupies. Such wrinkling leads to the shift of a back surface of a vitreous forward. Normal the vitreous is attached to edges of a visual disk. In process of wrinkling of a vitreous this connection weakens, and it begins "to float" in an eye cavity that leads to feeling of opacifications which can sometimes be quite extensive by the size. Besides, the back surface of a vitreous which "floats" in an eye cavity also casts a shadow on a retina that leads to feeling of opacifications.
Wrinkling and amotio of a back surface of a vitreous is called back amotio of a vitreous. It not the same that retina amotio. Approximately at 50% of people 65 years are more senior back amotio of a vitreous is noted. It is noted that if at the patient back amotio of a vitreous in one eye developed, then it will arise within 1,5 years and in another.
Treatment of the Opacity of the vitreous body:
Now in ophthalmology there are no ways of removal of the floating opacities of a vitreous caused by a syneresis or back amotio of a vitreous. Most of them will pass independently over time or will just cease to disturb.
Though some vitamins, herbs and iodinated drugs are also considered effective in reduction of expressiveness of floating opacities, the clinical trials proving their efficiency no. In rare instances when opacifications are caused by inflammatory reaction in an eye, use of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs can be effective in elimination of opacifications.
