Environmental standards

Among the population there is an opinion that the monitor is a source of harmful radiation. Actually monitors are dangerous to the person no more, than the electric kettle or the mixer. On condition of, of course, compliance to the environmental standards limiting the power of magnetic and electric fields. The most rigid are the TSO standards. In a zone of the European Union it is forbidden to sell the monitors which are not conforming to this standard.

That it is safer, ZhK or ELT

It is considered that LCD monitors it is safer, than ERT as owing to their technological features they do not create high voltage. Therefore also radiation power at them is significantly lower, and the static stress does not collect, especially, if to get energy saving model. But all this not absolutely is true. Actually a difference in radiation between ZhK and ELT monitors absolutely insignificant.

The maximum frequency of an allotment (this parameter is urgent for ELT of monitors) is measured in hertz and determines the frequency of updating of the image in a second. In modern parameters this indicator has to be equal to 85 Hz or above. The less often the image is updated, the monitor flickers stronger that negatively influences eyes. In LCD monitors the image does not flicker at all that is their main advantage.

Contrast

Contrast is the relation of the minimum brightness at display of the black field to maximum at display of the white field. This parameter at the choice of LCD monitors is especially important. This indicator has to be not lower than 250:1, and it is even better if it is equal to 600:1 or 1000:1. By the way, professional ELT-monitors have contrast higher than 1000:1.

The screen brightness is higher, the work behind such monitor in the conditions of bright light will be more comfortable, for example, at artificial lighting or a sunlight. For LCD monitors the norm of brightness makes – 250-300 cd/m2. At ELT-monitors this indicator is equal to 80-100 cd/m2.

Antiglare covering

Contrast and brightness of the screen increases a special glossy covering. Unfortunately, it has shortcomings – it glares and is soiled, on it traces of fingers and dust clearly are noticeable. An antipode to a glossy covering is antiglare which scatters incident light, without allowing it to be reflected from the screen. However the antiglare covering reduces picture clearness. In general, LCD monitors are much more ergonomic than ELT. Many producers stopped release of the last at all. Continue to use ELT-monitors unless the advanced gamers and people who are professionally working with graphics. Nevertheless, LCD monitors have also shortcomings which it is necessary to mention.
